I read this late last year and then read an article endorsed by Stephen Hawkings who went further- predicting 47% of jobs to go.
Last week - bricklaying: -reports of a robot now lay 2000 bricks a day ; relative of mine - just out of university with phd - stares down a microscope examining/ searching for specific types of micro fossils- a marker for oil reserves - highly specialised and well paid ?- yes- up until 2 months ago- a computer programme can now to do this. 7 screen cinema on holiday - 4 floors of building - self checkin / all food vended - 4 staff airports abroad- self checkin including baggage -very quick - stand alone terminals and just plonk your bags on carousel self driving cars/ lorries next |

The problem is as wages rise, companies will find it cheaper to use machinery for these jobs. If they had no minimum wage, and it was cheaper to hire a person than to get a machine to do the job. That's why I propose a minimum wage of 10 pence per hour.

I heard this same nonsense on Tomorrow's World 35 years ago. How we would all have it so easy and enjoy loads of leisure time. 35 years later people have never worked so hard.

I've just looked on Youtube (only one clip I may add) at a bricklaying robot. The the computer generated clip looked quite good, the prototype looked awful though. I think my job's safe from robots.
