I am paid £11.13 per hour.

My work a basic 40 hours per week 8:30 - 17:00 Monday- Friday.

Often i am required to work on a different site but still expected to be on site for 8:30. The company i work for do not pay any travel for the first half an hour travel either way. I leave my house at 7:30 and arrive at site at 8:30. So i am paid travel between 8:00 - 8:30 at the flat rate of £11.13.

£11.13 x 0.5hrs = £5.56

Minus

Income tax  @ 20%
National Insurance @ 12%

£5.56 * 32% = £1.78

£5.56 - £1.78 = £3.78

Leave just enough for a Mcdonald's Bacon Roll and Orange Juice CryCryCryCry

Your wages should be segemented into various sections...

one for food, one for rent, one for travel....etc.

If travel goes up by 5% then the related segment should increase to the same level to counteract any short fall...

Not the usual horsesh2t of a 'cross the board' 3 percent wage increase... but you get taxed up the @rse, and getting hit on all the travel bills that eating up all your hard earned green.

This should go someway to prevent indirect modern day slavery IMVHO.

His calculations take into account absolutely nothing of the personal allowance, and most of us have to commute to work at least some distance. Even I do a short distance, and I'm the queens butler and sleep at the end of her bed in a basket.

£204 is your weekly allowance before tax and you pay no NI on under £154.

So for the first 13.84 hours of your weeks work you keep all £154Grin

I think that WHP is secretly happy and made up because of the budget.
Strange days indeed when it's the Tory party that represents the working man (and women for the pedants)

You have confused moderate pay with slavery.  I think you would find the latter much more 'exciting'.

I work for the Royal Mail as a wagon driver, within the company we are the only ones that don't get paid when on a meal relief. Due to the drivers time directive I must have an hour and a half in breaks in a 12 hour shift. So most weeks I am down  7.5 hours pay.

Nobody should get paid for meal breaks.

You do on shift work, that's why you only get 30 minutes for an 8 hour shift at most, but not all places.

have you ever asked : what are you actually worth to your company?
work it thru- do you generate  significant profits ?

if so and you are not rewarded - do something about it

if not- keep stum m8 !

You can dress it up as much as you want.. Minimum wage, living wage, 'just enough for McDonalds' wage.

It means jack sh1t if the travel, food and fuel go up more than your annual pay rise.

At the end of the day you're better off doing f*ck all and playing the system...Like the work shy, the MP's fiddling the expensives or the rest of the 'fat cat' tax-evaders in this god forsaken country.

@akbula I am still responsible for the security of the wagon and mail even when I am on a break off a royal mail site. So I should be paid
By:

You shouldn't be responsible for your wagon if you have to take your meal break away from it, which I thought was the law for HGVs.
By:

When: 13 Jul 15 19:05
Apparently not when you work for the Royal Mail.
Your supposed to change seats, in the driving seat at work in the passenger seat on a break or recreational activities.
This also why drivers are forced to tramp, apparently living in the wagon all week is not at work

Well that's different. Do you have to stay in the wagon for the whole of your break?

You have no choice if your in a lay by,  or up at a port waiting for the ferry on a weekend. Even in a service station your still expected to keep an eye on things. The union footed up big time on this

Driving a 40 footer over the mountains in Italy, if you park up and sleep, but leave your windows open a crack for fresh air, you'll probably get gassed, and wake up to find your trailer gone. Laugh
