I carry lots of cash on me and a few weeks ago, oblivious to me, 3 junkies were crowded around me and according to the shop manager they looked like they were going to do me in until the manager came from behind the till and told me to watch myself, which they noticed and left the shop.

After this I’m worried about my grandad who gambles alone and also carries lots of cash with him but would appear to be a much easier mugging target than others. Has anybody experienced this before?

Bookies tend not to discourage these types as if they have any cash left they will bet in 'bumpers'

Why carry lots of cash on you ?.
If they are aware you become a natural target.
Wont be a case of if , but when.

The William Hill shop in Alperton used to have two signs in the shop, one asking you not to gob on the floor, the other telling you not to flash your winnings around.  Funnily enough it never won betting shop of the year.

On this related topic I am going to Greece in a few weeks time. Its going to be well known that all tourists will be taking lots of cash with them at this time. Not worried about the money so much. But a little worried that when I am out with my family there is a greater risk of being mugged than previously. Especially as I am staying in a big city and I would normally like aimlessly wandering down little streets.

Going back a few years now but my local independent shop was robbed at gunpoint one Saturday afternoon. One of the villains fired a shotgun into the ceiling to show they meant business. With the shop full of gun smoke and the manager literally cr@pping himself punters were still trying to give him bets to put on Shocked
