Oh yes, looking forward to this and as long as the weather doesn't do it's usual, a fine series is expected. Wombat shufflers to win 2-1 for me, but i soooo want to be wrong...
ffs Kenny like we needed to be told what the tune was.
The convicts didn't stand up so it was "Sit down if you're two one down". Just sounds like an absolutely crazy atmosphere. This time next week I'll be there at Trent Bridge, just can't wait if it is anything like this. What a great pantomime villain Mitchell is, proper Kudos to him.

What a cracking Test match that was. Brilliant to see Finn get applauded off the field at the end of the second Aussie innings - and for him to get MotM.
The crowd have been exceptionally good at Edgbaston creating a brilliant atmosphere.
There was an Aussie woman on one of Radio 5's Ashes programmes this week who suggested Edgbaston should always be the home of the first Test match in a Series as it creates such a great 'feel good' factor for England. She definitely has a point.

I was listening to that at lunchtime, they said it once was first test match. Even thou it would make sense to make it the first test but being the 3rd helps whatever test score is going into it is.

One thing's for sure; it should always be one of the grounds every time we play a Series over here. I think I heard them say this is the first time for 6 years it's been on the calendar?

"IMO the best thing that could happen is the Aussies collapse in the next half hour and just write off the first innings. Get the Poms in there asap while the wicket is still green and try and knock them over cheaply also. Bad toss to lose on this wicket in these conditions. As the experts say "cant judge until both sides have batted"."

"aussie have fallen to perfect bowling conditions.
England would be best to let them stay out in the middle for a few hours now.
I have seen it before and also bowled in conditions like this, all a good bowler needs to do is keep the seam upright and bowl on stumps, un playable
The team is not to blame, it has nothing to do with the batsmen, and I am a kiwi"

To be honest this isn't so unprecedented. England all out for 51 v windies in 2009. Aus about 47 (were 21-9) v saffers a few years back. England 46 v Windies 1994. Pak bowled out for 50 something twice in the same match about ten years back.

Well what a 1st session... The wombat shufflers destroyed like a snag in a croc..
Engerland get through to lunch unscathed.. And last but not least, Atherton phucked off to 3rd man. Although the narcissistic twot tried to escape a few times...
Most enjoyable..

Two best batsmen in now, both got a start, We'll have a 200 first innings lead by stumps on the first day. aussies in 2nd innings will be under so much pressure we'll skittle them again.

at the conclusion of their innings an Aussie said to me
"Still need to see the Poms bat on this green wicket. May still come down to a second innings test match if our quicks can knock the poms over for under 150. English batsmen are just average players. Don't give up just yet IMO."

I've been watching the highlights on Ch5 whilst listening to an Ashes special on Radio5. Just brilliant dual-mediaing! Now watching Ch5+1 to watch this glorious day in Ashes history once again.
They were talking to Chris Broad on R5 and he said Stuart was a 2lb 2 oz, 8 week premature baby when he was born.
That must give any new parent who is going through the trials and tribulations of having a very small baby who is very premature great succour.
Very well done Stuart Broad.

This is the type of thing that gets kids interested in the game at an early age - not the dour, depressing stuff Boycott and co were shovelling up in my early years which put me off the game for all of my childhood well into my adulthood.
Just such a shame it's not on terrestrial tv.
On Radio5 at the start of their Ashes special tonight they said the cricket pages on the BBC this afternoon were the most 'hit' EVER on all BBC pages ever written.
There's still a massive love for the game - which is only viewed live now by a few.
Pity the young kids from households who can't afford the Murdoch subscriptions who may well have been the new British sporting heroes to come after picking up on their love of the game (plus every other sport) at a tender age, who will probably never even take up any sport now that its been almost wiped off the curriculum of ordinary schools (with no playing fields) and terrestrial tv.

Hope Rob is having a great time over at Trent Bridge today - which I'm sure he is and hopefully in a well-oiled fashion by now!
I had to go out just before the end of the excellent lunchtime interview with Mike Brearley on TMS.
Aggers asked him a few pertinent questions about the way he handled certain players in particular - and Brearley was very forthcoming in his appraisal. As you can imagine, Aggers particularly wanted to know about his dealings with Boycott - and once again, Mike was candid in a supremely measured and humorous way about his recollections.
What I'd like to know if anyone has been listening to TMS since lunch is: Has Aggers mentioned to Boycott Brearley's recollections, and if he has, what has Boycott said?
