Popular back in the 60s and 70s with Londoners.
Cheap holidays abroad killed it off. |
By:
yeah I remember going there as a kid for a holiday in the 1960s, for a nipper who lived in london it was a magical place at the time ,remember going to the fairground , changed beyond memory now ! cant help thinking there is an hidden agenda here !

My family went on holiday to Butlins in Clacton when I was 7. I remember we went to Jaywick Sands one day. I don't remember anything else about it.

Used to walk from Hutley's site along the sea wall to Jaywick Market.
Hutley must be a multi-millionnaire. I'm going back to the days when the annual ground rent for a caravan was just £400, and you couldn't count the caravans, even when standing on the sea wall. Only one betting shop for the whole site, and it never got robbed. He owned the site cafe and the Sailor Boy pub. |

how about this for a possibility ......the powers that be or whoever see jaywick as a potential goldmine, problem is how do we get the housholders and council tenants out , let the place become a ghetto, feckin shytehole let it rundown so no one wants to live there .then in years to come after it is the absolute pits ,offer a solution ........offer the tenants housing on a new development even throw in some cash and get them out .bulldoze the existing shytholes and build new luxury homes by the sea and make a fortune
By:
Bulldozers?
A force 8 gale would probably flatten it. ![]() |

yeah not far wrong spell seen the pics of the place and its in a bad state ........pity the poor fookers who live there !

Businesses closed down and moved on to build the Multi-million pound Olympic Stadium in Newham.
My youngest son-in-law got lucky, the firm he has worked at since he left school, 15 years ago, missed the 'close down' area by about 30 yards. Yet Newham is still one of the worst housing problem boroughs in the country, with a report two weeks ago of 25 adults and one child living in one house. All for those at the top to make money. |

the jaywick programme is on tomorrow night "benefits by the sea " no doubt it will portray the residents in a good light !
By:
When does the programme air?
By:
It's a repeat. I saw it weeks ago.
By:
not sure if its a repeat tbh ,I saw the ones that were on weeks ago ,its either on channel 4 or 5 at 9 pm tommoz
By:
It's still crap television, repeat or not.
![]() If I remember, l'll poke my head in to see if it's the same programme. |
By:
just thinking how much that land at jaywick would be worth if the residents and house owners were moved on , plots of land for luxury flats and houses overlooking the sea with a beach that if properly maintained is one of the best in the country ,easy access to London and Clacton train station 2 miles away

My sister and ex-wife number 3 will like it.
It will send property prices up, they both live in nearby Frinton. |
By:
yep that's what I think the agenda is ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
By:
The people living there have all been sent there in recent years they hardly going to move them all out again .Lots of immigrants shifted there as well ....
By:
there must be an ulterior motive casamoney or am I just getting too cynical as I get older ! money talks !

Down East Ham Manor way in Newham is a road named Savage Gardens.
In the late 60s and early 70s that's where the council put all the 'problem' families. They never got any credit in the few local shops, couldn't get HP, and no milkman would deliver down there. It was a dead end road opposite the park, and out of the way, and a complete sh*thole. Now there are not enough roads like Savage Gardens to house 'problem' families. See how many London accents you spot in the Jaywick programme. |
By:
Jaywick would have limited potential as it's enclosed by CLACTON ,which is lowish priced in itself - Frinton is the exception along here - further up Walton and Harwich suffer from high levels of deprivation - it's a very poor area .
Besides , the temperatures on the east coast is pitiful with a continual breeze blown over from Denmark, Holland ,Belgium,Northern France -any one of those arctic states ,even though inland it is often be 6 or 7c warmer - north sea is nearly always cold and the sea is like ice in liquid form year round . |
By:
That bit of coast seems to have a very high percent of old age folk with cockney 'alright guv, apple n pears ' accents you only hear in old films - i don't think they like any sort of immigration or immigrants ,although the irony is lost on them a bit
By:
Yarmouth is as almost as bad ,as is Lowestoft.
Southwold seems to go to the other extreme, although it's a lot nicer ...you don't get 80 year old blokes spitting in the street at least |
By:
on the temp issue
was 32c the other day ,went 10 miles to the coast .... and i felt like i had arrived in Reykjavik via the A14,folk were in CARDIES ffs |
By:
should have went to Heathrow
By:
can only think of one of 2 theorys, either the land sell off ,or spellins take on it ,ie ship all the problem familys out of the way and leave them to it !

Done him a favour really. He's been wanting to go for about 2 years, since they moved to Colchester. He doesn't drive, and rail fares are expensive.
By:
Crap figures he quoted for crime.
'Jaywick has 4 times the average number of crimes' Then he went on to say 'The 770 crimes reported last year.' Divide 770 by 4, and you get 192, and that's the national average for what? 1 arrest every 2 days everywhere else. WALOFS ![]() |
