He/She has the same routine every day taking the nuts that fall to the ground from the birder feeders we have all over our garden. I was asking my wife about squirrels as she is an enclycapedia of knowledge on animals and she said rats get a bad name because they don't have the same little fluffy tail squirrels have but take away that and they are not unlike rats.
My wife used to actually keep a rat as pet when she was child.

Squirrels are rats with good PR.  Less so if grey.  Did you see the picture in New Scientist of the rat dreaming tucked up in bed with a little knitted rat under his arm?

Mutant ratoroaches will inherit the Earth from us.  And probably do a better job.

every Friday I buy a bag of monkey nuts and leave them by a tree for a pair of squirrels that live there. I feel as if i'm part of the squirrel's infrastructure. Like he's depending on me to supply the goods.

Monkey nuts are peanuts in their shells then?

Or...peanuts, as we called them as kids.

I also never used "monkey nut" in the last century....nor this century for that matter....probably an East Euro thing

I used to have squirrels in the garden and left stuff out for them but since I inherited Muttley they have disappeared as he wants to attack them Sad Quite a few foxes roaming around near me but I don't leave food out for them as they would tear my fella to bits.
