My contract ends next month so I thought I'd try my haggling skills with them to get a better deal, it didn't quite go as I'd hoped it would so I cancelled it. The missus kept giving me the evil eye while I was on the phone to them, and she almost fell off the settee when I cancelled it (I was going to cancel the cancellation if I had to) but things have worked out for the best (I think). I rang Sky yesterday to see what they could offer me and I've got a deal with them that I'm more than happy with, the three main things plus Sky Sports and Sky Movies for £53 a month, that's £13 a month less and I didn't have Sky Movies either with Virgin.
Many of you on here must've had both Sky/Virgin at some stage, and I was just wondering about a few trivial things such as is it easy to record programmes? Is the remote control easy to use? Can you pause live TV? Or do any of you regret switching to them?
How long will you paying the £53 a month ken?..i was duped by Sky who offered me a similar deal to yours only to find after 6 months the price jumped to £86(I wasn't told the "deal" was only a half yearly affair)and of course when i complained was told there was nothing they can do until my present contract runs out.

Should've registered your new sky account online mate.
I got 100 quid worth of gift vouchers for changing my phone and broadband....or you couldve got a free samsung 32" tv changing from virgin. If youre still in the "cooling off" period, maybe you could cancel and reapply online.

Mine's for 12 months Twizzle, then it nearly doubles. I wouldn't pay that though I'd try to negotiate with them or take Sky Movies off as I'm not too fussed about it.
I did ask them about that offer TBB because I saw it online, they said I didn't qualify for it because of the discount I was getting.
Virgin were taking absurd money out of our accounts sometimes and when I rang up to complain it'd take an hour to sort it out. They'd say that they would reduce our next payment but it was still never right. Plus the TV kept getting error codes coming up.

When I signed up to Virgin we were paying £25 PM (after the initial sweetener deal that entices you in.) Slowly but surely it crept up and we are now paying £68 for channels I don't watch. I'm really happy with the Internet which I couldn't live without. It rarely has any issues and is very fast. I'd really like to stay with Virgin but I'd also like to be paying £25 - £30 again. We've been with them for 7 years.
How would you go about getting a better deal?

I have a Fire Stick and can get anything I want as long as I have a decent broadband. I'd rather get my bill down to £30 again rather than add channels.
Thanks though, it's good to hear you can negotiate.

My parents pay £35 a month with Virgin for internet/phone, I keep telling them that for maybe a fiver a month more they could get a basic TV package too.
Ovalman, we've got an Apple Box which we can stream movies through, I presume that's similar to a Fire Stick is it?

I'd guess they've been with them for about five years now. It seems silly that they haven't got the TV package, I think they'd like it they just can't be bothered to ring them up.

My brother did it with sky, then they phoned up, he said i dont want it. All about the contract i suppose. I just dont want to go through the hassle of a phonecall to a numptie and to tell him i only like champions league, Reading FC and dislike jamie redknapp with a passion.

I have several old contracts from phone line to mobile and sky I put off getting new better contracts on but going to sort them out this week. Usually phone up sky and give them the story times are hard and need to cancel the whole package (think mine is like 73quid a month at the moment ) and they give you things like 3-6 months half price for taking out a new contract. But I actually want to get extra room sky so I don't want to look bad when they say okay we will give you a better deal and then tell them I want an extra room package and will pay more for it. Anyone ever just phoned them up and just said you don't want to waste time haggling. You just want a bit of loyalty discount for being a good and long standing customer.

My wife has no interest in sport and we get a terrible reception on freeview on the tv in the Orangery where my wife likes to watch tv which looks out onto the back garden.

I will also have Sky TV in my bedroom, I forgot about that until I read these posts.
Virgin have been on the phone today trying to persuade us to stay. They've offered us the same terms as Sky but a tenner a month more, now if they'd have offered me that the other day when I asked them what their best possible price is, then I'd have took it.

Just posted this on footy may be of some interest especially being charged £35 a month for phone and internet. I should be getting both for £19.50 per month.

Starting next month I'm getting out of an 18-month contract with Virgin (landline, Sky and internet). I really only want Sky Sports and internet. When finding out whether I must have landline I was simultaneously chatting with both Sky and Virgin and both confirmed that a landline is no longer necessary. So I arranged broadband from Virgin and Sky from Sky.
The only catch is that there's not much difference in the price of broadband alone and a package of phone and broadband. But saying that Virgin's quoted cost of broadband alone was around £29.50 per month but they said I was entitled to a loyalty discount of £10 per month. A few days ago Virgin phoned trying to get me to take out one of their bundles. When it was clear I didn't want one they said they would give me the phone-line for free just to "keep it open" whatever that means. Recently received an e-mail stating new package details - which states £24.49 a month but then has loyalty credit of £5.00 below. Haven't had it confirmed that I will be paying £19.49 and not £24.49 per month.
