I know next to nothing about cars but after having watched all the programmes about Nazi's including repeats on the History Channels and all the reruns of my other favourite History channel programmes like Pawn Stars and American restoration I start watched a chasing cars programme last week and then went to a vintage car show yesterday for the first time. My family never had a car and I only passed my driving test in my 30's. Literally never changed a tyre and need to get my brother to change oil and water.

So all these vintage cars for the first time was a bit like being blind and regaining sight and seeing things for the first time. I appreciate that's maybe not a good comparison.

Anyway, I was not so impressed with the very older cars pre 40's but then I saw one which totally blew my mind in terms of its look. The design and lines of the car seemed perfection. The sloped front lights was the first thing that caught my eye. No idea what it was until I looked closer and discovered it was a jaguar. I think it was a 60's e type and when I got home I googled it and apparently many other people would share my thoughts.
Never wanted to buy a vintage car before as a few times I have seen 50's somethings men driving around in vintage type open top sports cars and they look like knobs.
But seriously thinking about this car. Looked at just a few prices for the e type and they seem a bit high but I am guessing they are original in most ways at top of the range. I would not want one of those. Just something that looked half decent and would run.
How much would you be talking about.

Mistake in original post. I meant to say American pickers and not American restoration.

I think Aunty used to have an E-Type. He will know all about them.

I didn't have anything so grand in my wish list in those days and would have settled for a Triumph Spitfire which was the car of my dreams.
Report minardi • June 21, 2015 2:10 PM BST
The triumph stag was also a bit of a looker - when you see an e-type as i did the other week on the road you realise who small and fragile they were compared to todays cars.

My brother had a Triumph Stag minardi and my missus at the time had a TR7, both wonderful cars but like you say they were very delicate. I used to drive the TR7, it wasn't really built for speed and was a little bit tardy really but it certainly did look the business. My bro wouldn't let me drive the stag, miserable toad.Sad

On its release Enzo Ferrari called it 'The most beautiful car ever made'.

I've had a few e Jaguars, still drive one, but never had an E-Type.

Thank you all for the replies. Due to the reasons I mentioned previously I know very little about cars especially as I have no associations with any family cars. Infact the only time I have ever watched top gear was when my wife watched it although she mainly liked the presenters.
The cars I was hoping to see yesterday were an early 80's audi quarto as I liked the ashes to ashes on tv and previously life on Mars. Did infact see a 1983 one. The other one I would have loved to have seen was a Delorean none of which was there which seemed surprising as they were made just outside Belfast.
But the jaguar e type which I had never seen before or even knew existed really blew my mind as visually it looked like so stylistic in every way.
If I won the lottery I would definitely buy one but its a bit dearer that I expected and not literally no talent or experience in the mechanics of cars I would find it hard to maintain even if I could get a cheaper one in my present financial situation. It would be too much of a self indulgent purchase.
But I saw on one of those links provided you can actually hire this exact car by the day. For a few hundred quid its something I would love to do.
Don't like looking like one of these posers who see in their open top cars but for a day it would seem a great experience as part of a weekend away with my wife.
Thanks again for the replies.
Remember a few threads on here when old cars were being talked about. Both ones you owned personally or people had fond associations of when talking about their dads old cars.

From looking at some pictures online it would have been an e type jaguar series one. The one where the front headlights followed the shape of the car from the front.
Mentioned on another thread the vehicle at the show which was the most popular was a rolls Royce silver ghost tank but the reason it attracted most interest was due to its historical link and provenance being part of the convoy which Michael Collins was ambushed and killed.
The other car I found interesting was an American made car. Looked 1950's in style but could be a bit off in that guess. It had a name which began with B. The thing which attracted me to it though was the number place. 555 WW1. I thought that plate must be worth a few bob. Would it?

"I think Aunty used to have an E-Type. He will know all about them".

Indeed I did, along with close to fifty others, and I would post a photo but in a fit of rage, when "I left" here I wiped out my entire gallery!

The 1950s style beginning with a B could be a Straight-8 Buick. We had one when I was a nipper.
