Never been to Dorset, closest was Bournemouth. (We won 2-1 a couple of years ago, yet they're in the Premier League and we're stuck in the bottom half of league 1)
Putting that right next week with a week exploring the Jurassic Coast.
Any local Tolpuddle martyr descendants around to recommend hidden gems I shouldn't miss?

Weymouth is lovely if you enjoy a bit of tranquility with a picture postcard harbour. It is by far my favorite UK holiday venue from the time I first went 40 years ago. If you have a look on their website colly they permanently have a few live webcams going showing you various views of the place. We're thinking of going in August when the carnival is on as not been for 3 years.

Corfe is pleasant. They very considerately built a castle near all the tea shops and pubs so there's something to see there too.

Lyme Regis is up the road from Weymouth and that is also supposed to be nice. Never been but Bridport also looks nice, it's where they filmed a lot of the River Cottage series. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall did the majority of the sea fishing parts out of Weymouth harbour.

Bridport is just a market town really. Steer clear of Lyme Regis at bank holiday weekends but it is nice.

If you've got kids, take a little pick-axe/fossil hammer with you and take them fossiling at Charmouth beach.

Pixie, I took my kids fossil hunting on that beach.
Rented a hammer and let them forage around for an hour or two.
I then dumped a sh1**y fossil that I'd bought from one of the shops in the town into the rubble so that they "found" it.
I only told her the truth a couple of months ago!
Do you think she will still look after me when I'm old and ill?

Myself and the wife spent a week there last month a very beautiful part of the world, We visited Thomas Hardys cottage , hard to find if you're driving but worth the effort .Weymouth, Lyme Regis , and my personal fav Swanage, also worth a look.We based ourselves in Poole which was ideal for the area.Enjoy yourself where ever you decide to visit..

There is a fab free fireworks display in swanage at 9pm every Saturday night.
Park on the seafront next to the beach, about quarter of a mile from the town for the best view, get there early to park then go to pub and/or chippy tea.
