Is there a way to stream something from my friends TV to my laptop? And what would I need to do it?

Sorry to be so vague. My friend has got a box and dish for a racing channel. (Not sky) I want to be able to watch what's on his TV on my laptop at my house.

The only thing that I could think of was if it had mobile app, a bit like Sky Go.
