http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3120275/Teenager-stabbed-death-machete-attack-gang-youths-terrified-families-children-s-playground.html

A 17-year-old boy died after being stabbed to death with a machete in front of terrified families at a children's playground.

The teenager, named locally as Stefan Appleton, was targeted by the knife wielding gang just yards from where from youngsters were innocently playing on swings

Eyewitnesses said he was stabbed up to five - times - including twice in the back -  before he managed to stagger out of Nightingale Park in Islington, north London.

Stefan was just yards from his home in the Marquess Estate when he slumped to the ground due to his injuries.
He was taken by ambulance to an east London hospital, where he died a short time later.

Detectives said they are treating his death as murder and have launched a hunt for his killers.
Stefan is the seventh teenager to be murdered in London this year.

Residents living on the estate described seeing the teen fighting for his life at around 6pm yesterday.
'I heard a noise so I looked out and saw a boy riding a bike. It was one of Stefan's friends who'd stopped to help him and Stefan was on the floor,' said one resident, who declined to be named.

'Everyone was just in total shock, with people crying. It was awful. His sister was there. She was just all over the place sobbing.
'I think there were a couple of stab wounds in Stefan's back and he was stabbed four or five times altogether.

'I heard it was a machete, but someone else said it was a samurai sword. It was definitely a big knife of some kind.'
The attackers are believed to have fled towards the New River Green estate, according to the Evening Standard.

'There was more than one boy and they were riding on a moped flashing a weapon at him,' a witness told the newspaper.
Today the park remained cordoned off , along with some the estate's pathways, while officers stood guard.

Floral tributes were left at the scene for the teenager, who was described as a 'nice, very quiet boy.'

If they are launching a hunt for the killers, perhaps the Great British public could help them.

A description would be appropriate, perhaps?

14-18, medium height, wearing jeans, designer trainers, black puffa style jacket, and baseball cap. The baseball cap may have been turned round the wrong way.
Oh, and he was probably a straight A student.

Yes, we need a full description.

The BBC, unusually, had half a go earlier at describing the Bradford schoolboy the police later arrested re: the schoolroom stabbing today.

What a horrible World we live in. Youngster knifed to death while little kids are playing. Where did it all go wrong? Sad

The guilty ones should be locked up, in a virtually empty cell for 23 hours a day for the rest of their days. But that's not going to happen in softy Britain.

Boy, 14, described as asian.

The words 'racist stabbing' not used.

Perhaps the teachers isn't white.

Also, "racist stabbing" does not mean the attacker and victim were of different races: it means the victim was attacked *because* of his race and not because of some fecked-up dispute over mobile phones in class.

Thank you, Ramruma. I DO wish that more posters would try to realise that. The 'because of' is pivotal.

So every white that attacks an asian or a black isn't a racist?

That's amazing news.

I oppose mass immigration, I don't wish death on them, I don't want too many here, and I don't physically attack them, but I get called 'racist' almost every day.

I should get a lot of apologies posted for that, when it gets read.

But I won't hold my breath... Laugh

You racists!!! The machete is a weapon used by certain cultures and in this case to be excused.  We need to treat these people with sensitivity.
I know coz a judge said so.

Trite reporting

I would guess the report means 'murder as opposed to manslaughter'. Murder is a more serious offence and would probably qualify for higher police activity.
