Using Charles Kennedy's sad demise to make political points.  Said CK's heart wasn't really in the stay together camp, which was blatantly untrue.  Very, very poor form when the poor chap had just died and couldn't correct him.  Horrible **** stirrer and rabble rouser is Salmond.

Speaking as one of CK's constituents, and somebody who spoke to him about the referendum, I can confirm his heart wasn't really in it. Salmond was right.

That's bollocks, thunderoad.  If he was against the UK he would have said so and not campaigned for the union.  You and Salmond are maligning CK, which is shameful as he can't answer back.

It was possible to support the UK, want a federal UK and not have your heart in the negative Better Together campaign.

The thing is, even if that allegation was true (which I don't believe for a moment as CK never came across as a duplicitous person) to allege it the day after the poor bloke died is utterly shameful.  Why didn't the odious **** Salmond mention whilst CK was alive?  I'll tell you why, because it wasn't true and CK would be able to show him up for the **** he is.

Salmond was a wee bit out of order but far too much has been made of it.

I'd agree with trilby. The knives are out for Salmond. Had someone else made the comment it wouldn't have generated as much publicity. I'm also not sure it is that big a deal. Salmond hardy accused Kennedy of a major indiscretion. Even so Salmond is so obsessed with the issue that it isn't really a surprise that he wangles in a comment about independence into a eulogy for someone who had just died. The guy has no class.

I'm glad Salmond is in the house of commons, a complete & utter **** that more than likely cost Scotland independence & now give him time to complete the total balls up while an MP

The reason the knives are out for Salmond is that he has tried to steal the limelight in Westminster and made a complete ar5e of himself in the process.
Both his political enemies and the rest of the SNP are sick of his showboating although tbf he still has an ally in Alias.
A classless cant who represents no one but himself.
I was going to qualify that last sentence as it could apply equally to both Salmond and Alias but on reflection I won't. Laugh

Serious question:

How does it make you feel that your countrymen were given the chance by their English masters to make their own way and they chose three hundred more years of servitude over freedom?

As an Englishman living in Scotland who voted for independence it makes me a little sad that you are all a load of gutless fannnies and frankly I feel you mugged me off with all that Braveheart skirt wearing haggis munching nonsense when really you are too busy sucking on the English warm beer teat to bother to vote for Independence.

Yours in disappointment etc etc.

A slightly strange reply from you Eeeter and one devoid of your normally sound logic.

The logic is all there aka. Whilst I may have been winding that gobby character up there is a serious point. The SNP hijacked the independence debate and seem to have subsequently sought to turn it once again into a triumphalist us and them punch and judy routine. It's unseemly and is characterised by that monstrosity of fiction Braveheart. If Scotland wants for independence it should do so on the basis of it being a mature sovereign nation with so much to offer the world in terms of its history and positive future. I despair at the parochialism of some Scots and their world weary insularity which sees them define themselves in terms of what they are not ie English. In truth this may be controversial but all that is great about Scotland isn't espoused fully whilst that "national anthem" is sung and sadly that encapsulates that attitude of some Scots to who and what they are. The country which gave so much to the union and indeed to the word reduced to singing about the English is demeaning to a country I in truth hold in the highest regard.

I agree with you about the disgraceful dirge Flower of Scotland being chosen as our unofficial anthem.
Scotland is a split nation. Has been for some time but recent events brought the fissure into the open.
It is pretty much like Ireland now with the division as deep as it's ever been.
The thrust of the Yessers argument was a split from English rule which for some reason people fell for, crazy.
I hope the Union remains. Not only for economic reasons but for reasons of history and a shared past.

I meant to include in that post something about the hatred that the SNP seems to foster in people.
You speak to No voters and in the main they give reasoned answers for keeping the Union.
Alternatively speak to the Yes voters and they almost immediately turn the argument into an attack, in the vilest of terms, on those who voted No.
By:

When: 06 Jun 15 22:04
Agreed. I voted yes because I didn't see it as being my place as an Englishman in Scotland to tell the Scots what
they should do and I though that they were perfectly capable of making a decent fist of running the show. I was shocked at how things turned out in the referendum and subsequently.
