Missing 13yo girl in Mansfield...

I am not on a 'high horse'. I noticed the thread title about a young girl going missing. This is the first I had heard of it. When I read the tread I was astonished at the variety and level of accusations being directed at many different people...all of whom may be totally innocent of any wrong-doing whatsoever. People are even accused of not crying correctly and other such daft remarks.
You just don't seem to learn from events of the past.

its happened that much you have to look at the signs , you think the police set that interview up for anyone to come forward it was to see how the parents reacted

A forum is where people express their views on whatever subject is in front of them.
BTW we know from past cases that the police look very closely at the people making the appeal and use body language experts to aid them.

Its threads like this that give you an insight into someones real character.  There's a few on here who seem to take too much pleasure in speculating on cases like this.

I think most couples up and down the country probably said to each other "I bet it was the step dad" or "The Mum looks shifty" or something along those lines. Unfortunately, when we see this kind of thing it's common place to look close to home.

As others have already stated, this still doesn't quite add up yet.

^ doesn't add up at all.  13-year-old girl, some argument about a minor household chore, goes out the door and dies. Then 3 days later found hanging in a hedge in the middle of a housing estate not too far away.  Does not quite add up, must be a lot more to this (?)

She must have been in mental turmoil about something.....put that with the step-dad's strange crying (guilt?) ...a possible answer?

How the heck did they miss the body on the first search of the area...have police given an explanation for their incompetence.

Missing for 3 days and her body was found half a mile from her home. Literally hundreds of people, police and civilians alike all out looking for her and found practically on her doorstep. It just doesn't make any sense.

Seriously, how a 13 year old has the gumption to take herself out to some woods and successfully hang herself i can't get my head around. It takes massive courage and no small amount of technical skill. I just don't buy it.

It just doesn't possibly ring true though, given where the poor kid was found and the untold amount of searching by highly trained police with sniffer dogs she is found 800 yards from her front door and it took three days to find her body? Nope, I'm not buying into this at all.

Only two conclusions imo

a) They missed her on search 1.

b) She was watching, and hanged herself after they left the area.

Why do you need an appropriate rope?

No skill required to secure a belt to a tree branch with rope, or more belts, put one belt loop round your neck, lower yourself so it doesn't snap, like it may from jumping, and in two minutes it's too late to change your mind.

Complete bullshit. jumping in front of a train can be done by any one instantaneously. Still takes guts. Successfully hanging yourself requires a lot more knowledge and skill. Hanging yourself with belts would be extremely difficult. Especially for a light weight 13 year old. Take some time. Think about it.

Hanging yourself 'properly ' may be a 'skill' But self strangulation is easy, whether it's intentional or by accident. Rope,belt,strip of clothing,,tie ? Anything put around your neck and then tightened in a way you can't reverse (with use of your body weight ) will kill you .

Plenty of young kids hang themselves for not to require technical prowess. Many happen accidentally so that in itself tells you that once there is something in place they struggle to remove it.

Most 'accidental' hangings happen at home, do they not? Tieing yerself to a tree aged 13 is a bit diff, and apparently she was very small for her age. Anyways, no kid would hang themselves over washing a food container. Someone is lying.

I t appears that was simply the last thing she was asked to do.

There is obviously more that went on before that, unless she had mental issues and it was a spur of the moment decision, which I find unlikely.

She may have been stupid enough to think it would attract attention, a 'cry for help' if you will.

But as I've already posted, once your body weight is on the loop/noose, two minutes in, and it's too late to change your mind.

There's a similar case in Gloucestershire. Adam Tharia, 15, bullied by a gang of boys, he was filmed being knocked to the ground without trying to defend himself.

They laughed as they filmed him on the ground.

He hanged himself soon afterwards.

The video has now been removed from social media, and the police are investigating the footage.

Amber Peat: Police vow to investigate 'appalling' post on Facebook

Police last night vowed to investigate an "appalling" message posted on Facebook during the search for Amber Peat.

The comment, made by an account in the name of David Lacki, said: "Amber won't be found alive. I've killed her."

A police spokesman said: "We are robustly investigating and will work hard to bring to justice anyone who publishes such appalling posts."

The workings of a childs mind are not so straight forward. She could have been upset about her self image and it manifests into her erupting over washing the pots. It is a transfer of emotions. She may have been upset over the way she looked on holiday snaps. Washing the pots would be the least of her troubles.

Perhaps the best way of putting it is that Amber, according to neighbours and relatives we spoke to, led a Cinderella type of existence, carrying the burden of more than her fair share of the domestic chores, then being chastised if those jobs were not completed ‘satisfactorily’.
It was a row over the cleaning of the cool box, remember, that triggered her disappearance.
A serious case review is believed to have started into Amber’s death by the local Safeguarding Children Board, an organisation made up of groups such as councils, the police and the NHS, whose responsibilities include protecting young people. Such reviews are undertaken ‘when a child dies or is seriously injured, and abuse or neglect are known or suspected to be factors in the death’, says its website.
Suicides among children in their early teens are extremely rare. The most recent figures from the Office for National Statistics show that in 2013, just ten youngsters in the UK aged 14 or under were suspected of taking their own lives. Only two of those victims were girls.
For the moment, at least, Amber’s death has not been classed as suicide. The coroner is awaiting reports from social services and other agencies before holding the full inquest hearing; no date has yet been set.

Amber’s story is one that will surely resonate with countless other children in Britain from similar backgrounds.
Nothing in it, taken in isolation, would make the front pages. Amber wasn’t physically or sexually abused. The wretchedness of her daily existence, such that it was, slipped beneath the radar and passed for normal life. It is perhaps that which makes her plight so heartbreaking, so poignant.
Amber’s parents, who never married, split up in 2012. Her mother married Mr Peat not long afterwards, in 2013. The couple’s daughter, Lily Rose —half-sister to Amber and Riley — was born in May 2014.
This domestic upheaval would unsettle any child, but over the past two years alone Amber and her new family moved homes at least four times, veering between Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, and she is understood to have attended at least three different schools.
One traumatic consequence was that Amber lost contact with her biological father, Adrian Cook, and her paternal grandmother — the ‘Nanna’ she used to visit every weekend, and at whose home she spent so many happy hours innocently painting her nails and pretending to be a model.

Until about a year ago, the Peat family were living in Peveril Road, Tibshelf, Derbyshire, about seven miles from Mansfield.
Enquiries there provide a glimpse into what life actually entailed for Amber. A number of residents on the street recall her having run away twice previously. On one occasion, they say, a police helicopter was dispatched to find her.
‘On those occasions she would be missing for a few hours and return home either late at night or in the morning,’ a spokesman for the Nottinghamshire force confirmed.
Neighbours in Peveril Road couldn’t help but notice how often Amber used to put out the bins or clear up rubbish from the garden.
One small incident stands out — the time, it is alleged, Amber was spotted standing outside with her hands above her head. ‘We heard him [Mr Peat] shouting at her and telling her to go outside with her hands above her head as a punishment for looking at his laptop,’ said someone who lived opposite the family.
On another occasion, a relative told us how Amber had to clean out the kitchen cupboards before bed, only they ‘weren’t done properly so he made her get up and clean them again.’
And there is one more thing you should know about Peveril Road: when Amber’s family moved to their most recent address in Mansfield, they left behind a painfully thin cat.

‘It was really skinny,’ said a neighbour. ‘We fed it for a few days before they came back and picked it up.’
In 2011, Danny Peat was fined £1,000 and given a six-month suspended sentence for animal cruelty after a pet rabbit was found starved to death in its hutch at the house where he was then staying.
His recent history has been marked by broken relationships (he has at least two more children by other women) and trouble of one kind or another.
In one foul-mouthed online rant he denounced the Pubwatch scheme, in which landlords share intelligence on troublemakers, as ‘a power trip for f****** retards,’ adding, ‘I f****** hate coppers’.
Last year, unemployed Mr Peat was jailed for 16 months over a £120,000 tax fraud. He and an accomplice admitted attempting to falsely claim more than £200,000 in tax rebates. Derby Crown Court heard Mr Peat was the instigator and received £78,000 from the scam. He did not serve his full sentence.
It would be difficult to think of a worse role model for Amber.
One of the reasons the family moved so often, locals have suggested, was to try to escape the stigma of Mr Peat’s troublesome past. Amber’s home life continued to be problematic after moving to Mansfield.
The sound of shouting and raised voices could sometimes be heard coming from her house, we have been told. On at least one occasion, Amber is said to have been discovered hiding in a neighbour’s shed.
