just watched yesterdays episode and although these people don't seem to have a lot of money they   raised a £500 collection  for that poor disabled kiddie to give him a Christmas treat , think you would struggle to match that in wealthier areas ,take my hat off to them !very sad ending and  I have got to give it to them they stick together and no shortage  of community spirit .good luck to them !

How different might people's views on this subject have been had this episode of Benefits Street been aired BEFORE the election?

a new restaurant opened near me , went for interview but never got a job , now they are advertising for work experience employees for 4 weeks and might be a job at end , but the job centre said dont let them knowLaugh

you would have to be a real idiot to accept one of these jobs , rather go to college for 4 weeks and hang out with the 18year old hotties

the owners stay above the restaurant also so they must have hardly any overheads if they are taking free workers on and live there

With the internet i dont see any need to take those low paid jobs now

betfair make £2 an hour a day and thats an 8 hour shift doing jobs that are low pay as we have too many people in the country , the offical records are balls

watched this weeks show and a guy from Ramsgate in kent had had his money stopped ,fair enough I thought to myself what has he done or not done ? maybe he didn't attend a job  interview ? no the reason they stopped his money was because his girlfriend who he lives with and who works as a carer had done 15 minutes more at work and this meant that they had "too much coming in " so the ****s stopped his money and they got into more debt borrowing money to pay the bills/ rent/food/ heating etc" feckin great incentive to try to better yourself " , wait till this government announce further cuts and schemes to clobber the less fortunate in july ,you will be o.k if you have plenty of money but even those at work and earning decent money  should be carefull what they wish for............... "it could be you next "

my take on it, and I am of average intellegence, no o levels or qualifications  ,I had to leave school at 14 in the late 60s to bring in a wage as my mother was widowed so couldnt stay on at school as we needed money coming in asap ,anyway I would like to think that I do have  some common sense  and can see through  this fookin government.
to me they are trying to take us back to the Edwardian times when it was master and servant scenario ,they want the gap between rich and poor widened! so they put out their anti poor  propaganda  and make it look as though the recession of the last 6 years or so is the fault of welfare and the less fortunate so they put out t.v and media  programes condemning the poorer of society and heaping the blame on welfare ,the so called defeceit has reportedly  doubled under this government but they are making like they are doing a great job !
before the election petrol and food prices had dropped ,watch petrol and food prices shoot up now the tories are back in someone once said you aint seen nothing yet as ,these planned cuts in july will hit the poorer of society hard and even those working and bringing 2 wages will be hit hard !

The Tories made real progress with the Lib/Dems in respect of reducing the deficit and I expect the same this term.
As for those working the lower paid have benefitted from the raising of the tax allowance which they have promised to raise further.
Labour put this country in the chyt not the Tories. As for benefits, too many scroungers milking the system is the real problem.

what about bankers polititions and those at the top milking the "system " akbula or is it only those on welfare ! why no t.v  programes on the lines of bankers or mps with their snouts in the trough ?

No but you were talking about the Tories and benefit claimants.
So I gave my opinion. Do the bankers only benefit when the Tories are in power btw?

Foyle

You can't just look at the issue as if Machiavellian government's are pulling all the strings. They don't make the programmes. They may supply kites but it is the wind coming from the public which causes them to take flight. Most people are too pig ignorant to take any interest in the complexities of what the bankers did or didn't do but they will be right royally entertained by some scrubber firing out loads of kids and living the big one because this allows them to feel morally superior. If there is one thing the Great British public love it is to feel a sense of outrage at the same time as feeling that sense of superiority. We get the governments we choose and at least to some extent they reflect our prejudices. We don't want kindness and compassion.

The other side of that is that at all levels there are a lot of people on the make but it's those at the bottom who usually get found out and punished. If you are that scrubber and you take a little more than you should they will send you to prison. If you are further up the ladder they are more likely to send you to the House Of Lords. The more things change the more they stay the same.

Brilliant post. Absolutely spot on. Only one section of society are the Tories bothered about.

spot on also facts ^^^regarding the tory agenda ,seems to me like the gap between poor and rich  is widening every day just seen a piece about proposals for the river crossings east of tower bridge being tolled,  ,ok there may only be about 3-4  to my knowledge Rotherhithe tunnel ,Blackwell tunnel woollwich ferry and foot tunnel but there looks   to be an agenda here in that a lot of boroughs east of tower bridge are less affluent ,some exceptions of course but with the congestion charge already  in place a nice way of adding more revenue into the pockets of the establishment ,I suspect that many less well off   avoid the congestion charge and Dartford toll tunnel routes by using the alternatives ,if the proposals get the go ahead these alternatives will not be possible .
