They still have a lot of work to do, I was using the beta version but it pretty much left my system unusable and I had to revert back to 8.

From what I've heard it's good, but windows 8 is sh*t, so hopefully they've learned something.

I read it's a free upgrade for a year for a lot of users, so I'll consider it.

It is free, then £1,000 a year until you die, or whatever they decide.
Why do we never hear what is improved in upgrades?
Is it Windows 7 in new underwear?

What happened to Windows 9?

There is no Windows 9 because Microsoft is worried that some old programs might test whether they are on Windows 95 (I did say old) or 98 as opposed to XP by just checking as far as "Windows 9".

I'm getting it, got windows 8 and hated it at first but then realized the negative reaction to it is very OTT, I  think the ppl who hate it are just adverse to change. it really isn't bad at all once you get used to it.

I think Windows 8 is excellent. Some people just don't like change, saying that I still use the old betfair site. Grin

The only problem I had with Windows 8 was the annoying charms panel that would come in from the right hand side whenever your pointer would go over that side. I just disabled it and now I don't have a single issue with Windows 8.

ahaha, i use the old site too, at least we have good reasons for that! yeah that panel is annoying, how do you disable it?

goto your control panel, then goto your touchpad. Mine is called Synapicts Touchpad V7.5 Click on it and then look down the list and uncheck enable edge swipes. Bingo, no more annoying charms panel coming in at you when you go over to the right side!

Interesting - or a convenient excuse?

Which? magazine states that there is no Windows 9 - so as to put distance between the awfully received windows 8, and the new (somewhat back to features from 7) Windows 10.

Windows 7 is the daddy had it two years not a single crash and doesn't try and turn your laptop/CPU into a tablet like 8. It's a world away from the XP days no more random crashes or BSOD.

No doubt Microsoft will have hidden way of making us pay for features or apps after you have updated to version 10.

Upgrade to me simply means having to learn a whole lot of new stuff in order to do exactly the same as my old DOS did.

They just lay everything out differently and change the names, then put them where you're not used to finding them.

Oh and tell you it's more secure. Then send you fresh security updates every month just like they did with the old system.

I've got Ubuntu 14.04 on a laptop which I use infrequently.
I could put Windows7 professional on it but I prefer Ubuntu.

I go on and get online straight away after not using it for a fortnight.
There's nothing to upgrade and no anti virus or spyware to run.

I just use it for what I want to do then switch it off.

It's decades ahead of Windows in that respect.
