Typically cringeworthy DM attempt to discredit Scottish MPs for such cardinal sins as: ´taking selfies´; ´brashly evicting the Lib Dems from offices they’d occupied for more than a century´...as they were perfectly entitled to do I assume; clapping instead of shouting ´hear hear´ or ´rubbish´; Mhairi Black drinking snakebite; and the best one...´Black was eating a quintessentially Scottish lunch: chips, bread, and a packet of cola cubes´- what like English people don´t eat chips with bread then?
Pathetic nonsense...or since its from the Westminster establishment mouthpiece perhaps that should be nonce-sense... |

I think it was the cola cubes that clinched it

Scotland's TRUE embarrassment (apart from mendacious sycophants like akabula) is the filthy, lying LibDem Alistair Carmichael, who, if he'd admitted his "error of judgement" over the attempted smear on Nicola Sturgeon a month earlier, he'd have saved the taxpayers the £1.4 million spent on the enquiry. Carmichael and LibDems, completely without scruples, a party with zero credibility. Desperate times for a Scottish unionist when he resorts to citing the Daily Mail. |

Unlikely., since she's not even an MP. I'm not sticking up for aka by any means but he was referring to Mhairi Black, not Sturgeon. Apart from their disgraceful behaviour towards Skinner, I hope they continue upsetting everyone else in Westminster. |

Well they might as well have some fun cos with a Tory majority, unless numerous Tories rebel, they can change FK ALL at Westminster !!!!

Well they might as well have some fun cos with a Tory majority, unless numerous Tories rebel, they can change FK ALL at Westminster !!!! I've heard that line, or similar, repeated countless times. Many of the same people who are saying that the SNP are impotent were hoping that UKIP might win more than one seat. Funny how they ridicule the SNP but not UKIP. |
By:
I thought nearly everyone tried to ridicule UKIP.
By:
The only reason UKIP would have held any sway over the Tories is due to fear of losing voters to them and the fact they have so many euro mps, neither of which is a factor for the wee yappy scotty dog/snp
So if you feel snp have any power over a tory majority in the UK parliament then pray tell how? |
By:
They don't. They're 56x more powerful than UKIP though.
By:
Mikael - you don't think UKIP have held some sway? Don't tell me you think Cameron would be holding an EU referendum unless he felt forced to.
By:
Forced to, me bollox. If he's allowing a referendum it's because he's certain he'll win it, same as the Scottish independence vote or the one on electoral reform.
By:
Alias what about Salmond and Sturgeon lying to the Scottish Parliament over having sought and paid for legal advice in respect of continued EU membership?
Did you call them filthy liars as well? Or was that okay? |
By:
What about you lying about practically everything, is that ok?
By:
Now the liar Carmichael is saying he didn't read the leaked memo. Fact is, his majority shrank from 10,000 to just over 800. If his constituents had been made aware of the truth prior to polling day, his feet wouldn't have touched the ground. He has to resign.
By:
I'm not sticking up for aka by any means but he was referring to Mhairi Black, not Sturgeon.
I know. He'll attack anyone he can, as long as it's not a Liedem or Tory liar. he loves LieDem and Tory liars, and his sycophancy towards them is astonishing. |

It’s me that asked the question so why would I then seek to answer it?
Come on I’m genuinely interested to know how 56 snp members can wield any influence over the UK parliament when the Tories have a majority with 331 seats unless you have numerous Tories rebel and vote against the government? If I’m wrong I’ll hold my hand up cos I don’t say I’m aufait with parliamentary procedure but logically I can’t see how snp can do anything but make a bit of noise, achieve f all and stamp their feet shouting referendum every time they don’t get their way at Westminster. |
By:
I don`t think Alias`s brain works logically...he`s working class.
By:
Yep I'm still unable to see how a party with 8.6% of the seats (56 out 650) can have any real influence against a majority tory government, if it had been a labour minority government then yes they'd have had some sway, but that ain't how it panned out.
![]() I did a quick scan of parliamentary procedure and I didn't see any clause which said the votes of snp members of parliament count more than those of other parties. So I await enlightenment with bated breath…….. |
By:
pawras,
...Ask yourself the following - what purposes does the Westminster parliament serve the SNP? Any suggestions, even? Why do they just not ignore it like Sinn Fein do? Figure that one out, and you will realise like I did that for the SNP, a majority Tory government was the possible election result. |

Their only goal is independence and a Tory majority is their best chance of getting it so they can shout being ruled by Westminster etc etc etc
But that wasn't the question was it, my question was how can the snp members of parliament influence a tory majority government other than shouting referendum every time they disagree with something? |
