Possibly one of the best ever actors America has produced?

All the films i have seen him he has been brilliant.

Recently watched Training Day and have to say its a brilliant film. Would say its up there with Man On Fire

Mrs SAGC has never seen Man On Fire due to the fact it's always broadcast too late for her to stay up.

I liked him in De Javu (apart from its factual errors)
Report Eeternaloptimist May 12, 2015 10:44 PM BST
Agreed. There aren't more than a handful of movie stars who always seem to bring their A game and whilst he may not always be in great films he always seems to give a performance and will make even a mediocre film worth watching. That's what I call a star not yer Tom Cruise's who can be good only if he gets the right role.
Report giggitygiggity May 12, 2015 10:46 PM BST
The hurricane was his best acting performance

agreed - stayed up till half past three this morning watching Man on Fire.   Could quibble with some aspects of it, but not Denzel's performance. He's always brilliant - pretty much sticks to the pre-method acting tradition of just being 'himself' in all his movies (or a version of his true self he's comfortable to project)
Report desperatemunter May 13, 2015 10:00 AM BST
Saw that Safe House a few weeks ago - that was brill too : a good actioner is basically the same movie every time - and every Denzel film fits the template - but I remain a satisfied customer.
Report numer0ne May 13, 2015 10:15 AM BST
I don't like him. He plays the same OTT character in all his films. He can't act normal.
Report desperatemunter May 13, 2015 10:27 AM BST
act normal ?Crazy - if anyone in a film 'acted normal' ie behaved the way people do in real life, all umm-ing and err-ing - you'd dismiss it as unwatchable garbage (rightly, probably)
Report desperatemunter May 13, 2015 10:29 AM BST
ever seen a james Bond film ?  it may come as a terrible shock, but theres no one remotely like that in real life - it's all made up
Report desperatemunter May 13, 2015 10:29 AM BST
Laugh
Report numer0ne May 13, 2015 10:29 AM BST
george clooney acts normal. I saw a good film with him in it the other day: The American. Can't think of any poor films he's been in.
Report desperatemunter May 13, 2015 10:30 AM BST
yes, Clooney's acting could be called more 'naturalistic' than say Denzel Washington's, you have something there
Report desperatemunter May 13, 2015 10:33 AM BST
Washington's acting persona is a fantasy - an action hero who takes no bull$hit, cuts down fools without a bye or leave : who wouldn't want to be a bit more like that in their own life?
Report numer0ne May 13, 2015 10:34 AM BST
I wouldn't say DW's acting is unnatural, rather just the same every time! I know he's going to be that tired alpha-male/ emotionally charged up cliche before it's begun.
Report numer0ne May 13, 2015 10:35 AM BST
who wouldn't want to be a bit more like that in their own life?

so what's stopping you? Confused
Report desperatemunter May 13, 2015 10:38 AM BST
whats stopping me from being an action hero ? -  where to begin, where to begin...

love Denzil. Anyone seen The Equaliser? Amazing what you can do with DIY equipment.
Report lovegod May 13, 2015 1:16 PM BST
Quite like his films but saw 2 Guns and thought it was rubbish.
Report PugMunter1 May 13, 2015 7:11 PM BST
the equaliser is a fantastic film

Not very versatile but great at what he does.

Makes a lot of guarantees
Report Angel Gabrial May 13, 2015 7:26 PM BST
Flight was excellent

Not many actors could have made this film mesmerising but D.Wash pulled it off.
It would have been an absolute bomber without him.
Report spellingandgrammarchecker May 13, 2015 7:59 PM BST
For anybody who watches Dejavu, any time travel thriller can have plot holes, but their factual error was having cars on the ferry.

On 'Fat Tuesday' in New Orleans it's pedestrians only.

Still a very good film though, imo.
Report s.kenbo May 13, 2015 8:27 PM BST
The Hurricane and Training Day are both great films. I was pretty disappointed with Flight though, it started off ok then went down hill imo.

He is a superb actor and rarely makes a bad film.
Report Angel Gabrial May 14, 2015 11:35 AM BST
Flight was a poorly constructed film, quite disjointed and dull as a script.

But this is what i mean, DW made it watchable, hr dragged the film out of the mire. Hanks would never of managed that.
Report GRANTCKING May 14, 2015 2:12 PM BST
crimson tide, training day, man on fire, the equalizer, all great films
Report Angel Gabrial May 14, 2015 2:21 PM BST
A bucket load of films....the list is endless.
