Mrs SAGC has never seen Man On Fire due to the fact it's always broadcast too late for her to stay up.
I liked him in De Javu (apart from its factual errors)

Agreed. There aren't more than a handful of movie stars who always seem to bring their A game and whilst he may not always be in great films he always seems to give a performance and will make even a mediocre film worth watching. That's what I call a star not yer Tom Cruise's who can be good only if he gets the right role.

agreed - stayed up till half past three this morning watching Man on Fire. Could quibble with some aspects of it, but not Denzel's performance. He's always brilliant - pretty much sticks to the pre-method acting tradition of just being 'himself' in all his movies (or a version of his true self he's comfortable to project)

Saw that Safe House a few weeks ago - that was brill too : a good actioner is basically the same movie every time - and every Denzel film fits the template - but I remain a satisfied customer.

act normal ? - if anyone in a film 'acted normal' ie behaved the way people do in real life, all umm-ing and err-ing - you'd dismiss it as unwatchable garbage (rightly, probably)

Washington's acting persona is a fantasy - an action hero who takes no bull$hit, cuts down fools without a bye or leave : who wouldn't want to be a bit more like that in their own life?

I wouldn't say DW's acting is unnatural, rather just the same every time! I know he's going to be that tired alpha-male/ emotionally charged up cliche before it's begun.

For anybody who watches Dejavu, any time travel thriller can have plot holes, but their factual error was having cars on the ferry.
On 'Fat Tuesday' in New Orleans it's pedestrians only.
Still a very good film though, imo.

The Hurricane and Training Day are both great films. I was pretty disappointed with Flight though, it started off ok then went down hill imo.
He is a superb actor and rarely makes a bad film.

Flight was a poorly constructed film, quite disjointed and dull as a script.
But this is what i mean, DW made it watchable, hr dragged the film out of the mire. Hanks would never of managed that.
