In December 2012, I went on one of those Olympic Guided Walk type things in London, starting off at a Tube station (possibly Bromley-by-Bow ???) and ending up at the Westfield Shopping Centre, Stratford.

There were 3 other people on the walk. One bloke from Latvia (who proudly told us that his country had won Golds in BMX Cycling that summer), and a young couple from Paraguay (they were so pleased I knew their country's football kit).

I'm assuming that our walk took us though the mean streets of New Ham or whatever it's called, but I don't have the specialised local knowledge of say, The Jester From Chester.

Can any reader beat that?

Interesting. This type of crime, occurring in a specific public place with remarkable frequency, would surely benefit from detailed profiling by the authorities.

The numbers are clearly big enough to warrant attention, and I'm guessing that the actual types of crime committed on buses must surely be similar enough for one or more huge patterns to emerge.

I haven't been on a London bus for years (maybe one of my better ideas by the sounds of it). What do we know about the typical offences/offenders?

It all sounds a far cry from the 1960s days when the great Jackie Trent wrote "I Couldn't Live Without Your Love" on the top of a London bus.
Report spellingandgrammarchecker May 30, 2015 3:35 PM BST
The figures include 55 drug offences, 27 sexual offences and 43 cases of criminal damage.

Almost half of crimes reported – 423 – were for incidences of theft and handling, while a further 259 reports were for violence against the person.

The figures, released yesterday, show that there has been an overall decrease in crime on buses from the previous year – down 4.6 per cent from 929.

Det Chief Supt Paul Rickett, of the roads and transport policing command, said: “These fantastic crime reduction figures are down to robust policing, quality engagement with the public and strong partnership working. However, any crime is one too many and together we will continue to safeguard the travelling public from criminals operating on London’s transport network.”

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, added: “I applaud the success of British Transport Police, Metropolitan Police and TfL in bringing crime down to record lows.

When I was a boy, Prince Of Wales school in West Ham used to be open for all of the 6 weeks holidays for the kids that got free school meals. My best mate at the time had 3 brothers and 2 sisters, and I used to sit on the wall outside with other kids waiting for their mates to come out.

I don't ever recall the area being flooded with kids on free school meals as Prince of Wales was the only local school that did it.

Faraday school, Shipman Road school, Rosetta Road school, Plaistow Grammar school, South West Ham Boys Technical school, St Joachim's school, St Annes school and Tollgate school weren't open.

And there must be schools I missed, but these were all in the southern half of the Borough near the docks.

"Cook's specials:
A very popular option; kitchen staff produce their own signature dishes. These dishes are authentic and diverse, coming from all parts of the world from the East End of London to Asia, the Caribbean, Africa and Eastern Europe."

Can anyone else see the problem here - the implication is that if your food is from North America, Northern or Western Europe then the food is somehow not special. Feck that for an attitude which is anti-success, as these regions are the world's most desirable to live.

On the other hand, I did learn from the above page that National Government Food Standards means having at least one portion of fruit and one of veg a day, which is down from the 5 that I thought it was.

This is nothing new.

I helped my ex-brother-in law out on a roofing job for an asian bloke back in the mid 1970s, long BEFORE the great council house sell off.

It was a 3 floor house in Earlham Grove, Forest Gate, in the north of Newham.

We got on to the roof by climbing out of the windows on the top floor.

Every one of the bedrooms had wall to wall mattresses, not on beds, just on the floor. And there were at least two people sleeping in shifts on each single mattress.

One lot would get crammed into a mini buses and go to work, rumoured to be in Fords at Dagenham.

Within an hour, another lot came home and went to bed.

They all shared one kitchen, one living room and one toilet and bathroom.

I feel that there is not enough ‘diversity’ on these pages.

Not enough white people are committing crime in these areas.

Thank heavens for the Linnen brothers, Warren and Wesley, who are both white, and have just got 5 years each for committing multiple burglaries.

The BBC report them as coming from Beckton, London.

This style of reporting is simply not good enough.

Beckton is part of Newham, and Newham needs more white criminals to get the diversity figures balanced. Happy

Fair play, you don't see many crime stories in those parts involving traditionally British names like Charlie Bennett, Emily Smith or Queenie Watts.

Clearly, "The Enrichment of Britain" via Enforced Multiculturalism has been a massive benefit to local crime reporters. They've surely never been so busy.

As startling as it is that just 1 in 3 of the 320,000 population on Newham are indigenous white, that pales into insignificance when you see that among the thousands of schoolkids in Newham, just 1 in 10 is indigenous white.
