Great singer and contributed so much to good music - which is obvious, as so many of his songs are still played today as accompaniments to tv programmes, etc, etc.

did you shake his hand do wah?
Report kenny mann May 6, 2015 4:55 PM BST
Oh no! Loved that man and his band. What incredible songs they made. I remember when my mum died in '79, I'll put you together again, was in the charts. Fantastic song, and very poignant at the time.

I wore the jukebox out playing another amazing song, You coulda been a lady.

Great shame.

i think the group was formed at art college wasn't it?? 71 he was, absolutely no age.
Report kenny mann May 6, 2015 4:58 PM BST
I don't think he was anywhere near 71, about 66?
Report pandora1963 May 6, 2015 4:58 PM BST
71 according to bbc
Report kenny mann May 6, 2015 5:01 PM BST
Nah, he's always been about my age, a tad older.

Bit of confusion here.

Lester Errol Brown MBE (1943/1944 – 6 May 2015)[1] was a singer and songwriter, best known as the frontman of Hot Chocolate. He had British citizenship by marriage to Ginette and they lived in The Bahamas. Hot Chocolate's hits included "You Sexy Thing", "Emma", "So You Win Again" and "Brother Louie".

In 2003 Brown was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to popular music for the United Kingdom.[1] In 2004 he received an Ivor Novello Award for outstanding contributions to British music.

In May 2015 Brown died at the age of 66 of liver cancer

Didn't he have a few horses with John Dunlop at Arundel?
Report screaming from beneaththewaves May 6, 2015 6:01 PM BST
Only remember those orange and black colours being carried by Pitman horses like Gainsay.
Report screaming from beneaththewaves May 6, 2015 6:08 PM BST
Come to think of it, Gainsay and Do Be Brief (also J Pitman) are the only two Errol Brown horses I can recall. If those were indeed the only two racehorses he ever owned, then he was a phenomenally fortunate/shrewd owner.
Report Cork Langer May 6, 2015 6:17 PM BST
RIP Errol, had the great fortune to spend the summer in his company in Ibiza in 82, a great guy and very knowledgeable about horses, which was how we first came to talk, thanks for all the girls and the laughs that summer buddy, lets hope the angels are ready for you're charms.
Report Coachbuster May 6, 2015 6:17 PM BST
i read he owned about 30 in total - whether that's over his lifetime i'm not sure
Report Ibrahima Sonko May 6, 2015 6:31 PM BST

Report SlippyBlue May 6, 2015 7:42 PM BST
That's extremely sad news to read, as others have said earlier Gainsay was one of his horses trained by Jenny Pitman and he was a regular at the tracks, a really very lovely man. So sad Sad

Report attitude adjuster May 7, 2015 9:19 AM BST
A seriously underrated band who had some very leftfield hits

Emma,Mindless Boogie etc

and some more traditional pop gems - It Started With A Kiss,No Doubt,Everyones a Winner..

Great to hear those stories about Errol - he seemed a great guy and turns out he was Happy

The ladies up here in Scotland fairly loved those tight satin breeks my son Grin

God Bless RIP

did any of his horses win a big race?

Gainsay won the Ritz Club Chase at the Festival in 1987 (the 3m handicap chase). It was a desperately hard race to win in those days, before they made the meeting 4 days and added all those Mickey Mouse contests.

Do Be Brief won a couple of chases at Newbury and loads around the midland gaffs.
