Election bet

With just 18 hours until the polling stations open in this year's general election the bookies cannot split the leaders of the two main parties in the battle to become prime minister.



Labour leader Ed Miliband and his Conservative counterpart and current office holder, David Cameron, are each available at even money to be the leader of the government that forms after Thursday's ballot.


Cameron's party are judged heavy favourites at 1/5 to gain most seats in the House of Commons but Miliband's potential path to Number 10 is judged more straightforward - he is 9/4 to lead a Labour minority government in the next parliament, 8/1 to hatch a coalition deal with the Liberal Democrats and 14/1 to unite with the SNP.


A Conservative minority government is out to 11/2, with a repeat of the last Tory-Lib Dem coalition government a 3/1 chance. The prices on a Conservative and Labour majority are out to 10/1* and 100/1 respectively, with no party to gain the 326 seats required now almost unbackable at 1/14.
