We don't need visionary politicians any more we need office managers who can read a balance  sheet.


We've got them  - and they can't

The problem is we seem short of visionaries Dobbo. We are in fact in very short supply. I'd settle for competence and a Major style safe pair of hands but the jury is out on all of them. After five years that is more a criticism of Cameron/Clegg. Milliband looks and sound other worldly granted.

What we need is someone with common sense

but that can never be allowed to happen

Its all just white noise. Every single day for the last fortnight we see  them offering us a new titbit in front of a crowd of placard holding morons. They claim to listen to us but they only communicate with each other like dogs on heat.

In recent memory I think in the late 80's under Thatcher and in the late 90's under Blair after they inherited a strengthening economy and promised to stick to Tory tax and spend plans. How far these were influenced by oil revenues I can't say. What I can say is a slight adaptation to the oft repeated line about Britain:

We lost an empire and found a welfare state with all the ramification which flowed from that.

In the early days that was about creating a country fit for returning heroes. Now increasingly it is about creating an empire for public sector bureaucrats. The bureaucrats will out. In the old days we feather bedded them with sinecures in India et al. Now this has moved closer to home and the perks are even better.
