Hi Betfair friends,

Sold on the subject line? Donate straightaway: gofundme.com/bfnepalearthquake

I've been a long time Betfair member (see my profile: since 19 May 07), and a responsible one too. I noticed Betfair haven't come forward to raise an appeal for the Nepal Earthquake Relief. So I'm coming forward instead to reach out to the good hearted people of Betfair, whom have had fun reading and exchanging posts on the forum, to take a moment from what will be a great May Day Bank Holiday Weekend for many, and think of the destruction the Nepal Earthquake has done to the people and nation of Nepal. In addition, as many of you will know Nepal has provided the British Army with soldiers of great distinction, The Brigade of Gurkhas, for now 200 years! It's the least we owe.  Thankfully, my relatives are the lucky ones, but they have lost their homes, and now live in tents. And thousands are dead and have nothing.

I and most certainly the people of Nepal would appreciate greatly, if you could donate to this UNOFFICIAL BF Nepal Earthquake Relief, dig deep, and perhaps on any winnings you make, consider making a contribution, every penny counts.

All proceeds will go towards GMIN UK*, who I have followed since they started, they are one of the most transparent charities working in Nepal that I have seen, all funds go straight at the grassroots of Nepal.

Thank you and enjoy your bank holiday weekend!

*About GMIN UK

GRASSROOT MOVEMENT IN NEPAL UK is a sister organisation of GMIN which is a 501 (C) 3 non profit organisation registered in the USA. Established by a group of energetic and dedicated individuals from the U.K., we aim to address the pressing issues of Nepalese society using local knowledge and collective intelligence.

Where are funds going?

Whilst the large organisations such as Oxfam and Red Cross have based their relief efforts in Kathmandu, we are working with local organisations closer to the epicentre of the earthquake. We have established contacts in Pokhara who have been travelling to villages in nearby Gorkha and are working with local officials and Nepal Police to provide aid to the victims.

Whoever donated the first £500 - I am really appreciative, the charity will really benefit from this. £9500 to go, can we do it over the bank holiday?

What I've read about how poor nepal is has been an eye opener, it really puts the spoilt b*st*rds in the UK going on about how bad our "brutal austerity" is (via their laptops or smart phones with the NHS down the road if they get ill) into some perspective.

The poor in Nepal has access to clean water. Nearly 1billion people worldwide don't. A child dies every minute through water related disease.

It's all relative !

I feel bad for nepal I really do but the taxes we pay for the foreign aid budget should go towards this not asking the general public for more

@akabula - that's fine. Nice of you to reach out to the relief effort which is badly needed!

@JustChecking - Yes it is, personally I think these spoilt brats need to spend a moment in places and understand what human suffering really is. Hope you're able to make a donation. Peace.

@Facts - water is accessible, in fact about 80%* of the population have water, but it's not treated well, and needs donations to build investment in good clean water.
