Noted for hanging left or edging left in his races.
Won a 6 furlong maiden at Newmarket at 10/1.
Finished 2nd in the St Leger Yearling stakes
Finished 3rd in the Sportsman Champagne Stakes (Group 2)
Won the English 2000 Guineas
Won the Irish 2000 Guineas
Cost punters a fortune when backed off the boards in the St James Palace Stakes, finishing 5th at evens.
Retired to the National Stud where his original fee was £10,000
The following year it was £8,000
For the following two years it was £4,500
The following year it dropped to £4,000
The following year it dropped to £2,500
Is was then moved to a stud in France for a fee of 3,000 Euros, and the the following year it went back up to 4,000 Euros.

It was the era of "The Current Wife" after a spell which i inadvertently had a fling with a lusty Norwegian named Wenche whilst living on Crete whilst still married..i escaped to Thailand for some peace where i met some bint who was a Tax Inspector and ended up in Newcastle for a few months..
It was some mid life crisis and im now steering clear of all those temptations the only thing i do now 5 times a night is sadly going to the Karsie  |

 1982 was a great year.... The Middx and Herts country club in Harrow Weald was a goldmine...sahdes of Sharpo, Golden Fleece, Kalaglow and Century City lit up the flat seasonits no wonder that ive little money left, well relatively..still Hoping that the 12s Lucida Sunday will pay off...really fancy Educate to land the 9f hcap on sat as well |

Phil Cunningham Snr & Jnr and their business associate, an Irish chap whose name I can't remember (Eamon?) used to bet with us. They won an absolute fortune when Cockney Rebel won the Guineas, all layed off at monstrous prices of course.

1982 was indeed a wonderful year, I spent the entire Summer in San Antonio Ibiza bang on it. Happy days, it was like pass the parcel back then.

Nightclub of the year in the 80s a few times Pump, twas great to be 23 then, shelling peas job...Slippy was there a couple of times the year after....seem to remember a big outdoor place halfway between San Antonio and Ibize town

And of course that year we had one of the best games in World Cup History when Italy Turned over Brazil..hell even West Ham were pretty decent then..

I just about cried when Brazil lost that match. To add insult to injury, that Italian team (rancid during opening group, and with the supposedly 'banned' Rossi conveniently back in the fold) were cheered to the rafters when beating my beloved Germany. Horrible.

"Baerlein had been a racing correspondent for 44 years when he saw Shergar make his debut at the Guardian Classic Trial. The horse, owned by Baerlain's friend the Aga Khan, won his first race by 10 lengths and Baerlein made his now-famous call-to-arms "at 8-1 Shergar for the Derby, now is the time to bet like men". Baerlein did so well out of Shergar's victory that he named his house after him" |

Yes, as you say Zil, that and the Schumacher incident did them no favours with neutrals. How ironic though that Italy, the kings of Corruption Football (see also 2006), and in the 1970s regarded as virtual devils when England played them, were suddenly everyone's favourites. |

I remember brough scott interwiewing robert sangster after the race, he said he'd had 10k at 10/1 with laddies, that's more than respectable even today, back then it was breathtaking |

Rings a bell slippy, went on a trip to Formentera for the day and passed it on the way to Ibiza town. speaking of pools i used to work for the Playboy club in the early 80s and wennt for a staff do at stocks which was Lownes's gaff...the jaccuzzi was massive and all the bunny girls were there.
Had to stay thee for a good hour until the erection wore off ffs..... |
