Just tried to fire up my desktop computer and, after three or four seconds of the usual whirring, it just cuts out. A second or so later it tries again, a few moments of standard boot-up noise before cutting out. And so it goes on and on, trying and failing, until I have to forcefully shut the machine down by holding in the start button.
Any ideas?

if the PSU is shagged its shagged get replacement easy to fit
Thank you, gentlemen. I've tried that to no avail, Facts, sadly.
Had exactly same prob on this pc ,bought replacement PSU fitted in 20 mins ,key is to uplug each wire from old unit then connect to new unit one at a time ,as you will see the loom looks pretty daunting 
If you dont kmow Poker the PSU is the bit the power cable plugs into ,usually a couple of screws hold it in place 
i had a similar problem Poker and replaced the battery that sits in the motherboard - round lithium type -it will have the code on it
could be worth a try - i also cleaned the inside with a hoover being careful not to touch any parts

Thank you, sir. I didn't know, but normally okay at bodging my way around things.
I've just taken the case off and vacuumed the fan attached to the motherboard, plugged everything back in and turned it on with no confidence whatsoever. It's alive!
