Do need a odd shaped head to be good distance runner?
Looking at the runners up front everyone of them looks like they have had their head in vice.

5k in 35 mins, ie 3:30 per km.

What skool did you go to

Oh, that was 10k.

Anyway, great finish on the cards here in the mens.  2:04:29 is the course record.  Touch and go.

I'm enjoying it.  The elites have finished, so it isnt to the detriment of them.  our greatest ever female athlete is bowing out, good luck to her.

I have to agree this seems so over the top

Marathon's seem to produce quite a few orifice incidents.

Three-time winner Paula Radcliffe said the "magic of the London Marathon" helped her finish as she ran the race for the last time competitively.

Briton Radcliffe, 41, ran the 26.2-mile course in two hours 36 minutes 55 seconds, less than three years after surgery on a serious foot injury.

"It was just amazing the whole way round," world record holder Radcliffe told the BBC.

"I went off way too fast but from then on it got more and more emotional."

Radcliffe won the London Marathon in 2002, 2003 and 2005 and her 2003 winning time of 2:15:25 remains the world record.

A foot injury in 2012 ruled her out of the London Olympics and she feared she would never run again after surgery in August of that year.

The women's race was won by Ethiopia's Tigist Tufa, who sprinted clear to finish in 2:23:22, 18 seconds in front of Kenya's two-time London winner Mary Keitany.

There was a Kenyan one-two-three in the men's race as Eliud Kipchoge beat Wilson Kipsang, the 2012 and 2014 winner, with world record holder Dennis Kimetto third.

It's perfectly possible to get as much benefit from brisk/power walking.

Paula Radcliffe not only holds the world record but also ran the second and third fastest women's marathons of all time. The BBC's coverage was not OTT in that context, any more than was racing's concentration on Tony McCoy's retirement Saturday after 20 years as champion jockey. She probably is, as @rob_dylan says, our greatest ever female athlete.

Did it myself in fancy dress yesterday for a laugh. Crowd support was mental all the way round. Must be what it's like to play at Wembley or bring a winner up the hill at Cheltenham. Spine tingling stuff.

No, I kept my bowels intact. Did it in full Elvis get-up. All shook up along the Embankment but finished just under 3 hours.

Mate of mine set a world record for fastest superhero, running 2.30 dressed as Spiderman. Only downside to the day was getting beaten by CJ from Eggheads.  Would have been nice to have given him shove off Tower Bridge to cap a great day.

CJ goes under 3 hours!!!  Thought he did 3:20 last year.

That World record can't be official. Surely its cheating running with 8 legs.

The runners are notorious for taking a quick dump in someones front garden before continuing on with the race.

That's why you see so many padlocked front-gates on the tv coverage.

Radcliffes 2.15 is absolute ridiculus. Some incredible athletes have stepped up to the marathon and are still no where near it. Its better than bolts 100m time

No brendan it doesn't. Flo Jo like Ben Johnson before her was a virtual one hit wonder who went from also ran to world class. If you knew anything about athletics you would know that is far from the case with Radcliffe. She was winning Junior World titles as a teen and was a champion cross country runner and formidable track specialist who was at the top of the game for well over a decade. Her performances were Beamonesque but I'd bet my left bolllock they weren't in any way drug induced. Even on Sunday without the ability to train properly and carrying chronic injuries she still ran a very competitive time.
