Shame on you ;) |

Dear Monte
I own the DVD .The true test of a great film is that you watch it when its on TV anyway. |
|
By:
Very true. Although sometimes I think it's on a loop in my mind :)

Fargo on straight afterwards. It could be a long night.

No matter how many times I've seen it before, I've actually lost count, if it comes on it just has to be watched again. An

Danny: The joint I'm about to roll requires a craftsman. It can utilise up to 12 skins. It is called a Camberwell Carrot.
Marwood: It's impossible to use 12 papers on one joint. Danny: It's impossible to make a Camberwell Carrot with anything less. Withnail: Who says it's a Camberwell Carrot? Danny: I do. I invented it in Camberwell, and it looks like a carrot. ![]() |

I've never seen this (or heard of it) until now and had a look on utube.
I couldn't stay the course. Must be one of the worst ever made, is that the attraction? |

Here, hare, here.

Apparently the Monty character was based on the famous director Franco Zeffirelli, and Withnail was based on the actor Vivian MacKerrell, who was in "Ghost Story" made in 1974 and probably on YouTube. However wild and outlandish Withnail seems, he was only a pale caricature of MacKerrell...

I lasted about 10 minutes of this drivel some years ago .
|
|
By:
I watched about an hour then chucked it. It did wonders for Richard E. Grant's career.
|
|
By:
I forced myself to look at nearly 30 minutes of it.
Sorry slippy but it was pure drivel with the worst casting I've ever seen. |
|
By:
Haven't heard of it either Akabula. I assumed it was a tv drama from the original post.
|
|
By:
Don't waste even a second of your time watching it Foinavon it's that bad.
I would rather sit through an hour of Lenny Henry than another 5 minutes of that. |
|
By:
Thanks Aka, I won't. An hour of Lennie Henry...

Excuse me interrupting, Velasquez, but I was advised that you were something of an art aficionado and I wondered if you had noticed the thread a couple of weeks ago concerning the old portrait I inherited?

By:
No I didn't notice, Pokermonster...is it still on the go...?

I'll resurrect the thread, sir. Your opinion would be much appreciated.

I think it's the greatest comedy ever made but can understand why people don't like it.
Plot? Two failed actors get pi$$sed a lot, go on holiday and come home. The dialogue borders on surreal which I realise some will find annoying but for me, something like "The poop will boil through the glaze. We'll never be able to use the dinner service again." is one of the funniest lines ever uttered. You get it or you don't and if you don't, there's no accounting for taste. |

Biggest pile of shyte ever. The book was as funny as rabies.
Sure people like it because 'it's trendy.' |

Chacun à son goût, darling boy. Chacun à son goût.

I don't do "trendy" charwell, I love the film because of its complete and utter absurdity. Nowt wrong with enjoying a bit of comedy lunacy every now and then old stick.
