This is just another example of the great ChitChat mindset of 'I don't watch it so it must be rubbish'. The answer is simple isn't it? I don't have any interest in WWF wrestling so I don't watch it. Some people like it and they DO watch it. Each to their own.

Some might say it is boring to watch Arkle, Frankel, Sea the Stars, Lochsong, Desert Orchid, Double Trigger or Goldikova et al Going about their business of winning. but, of course, that would be because of their inability to comprehend the difficulties that must be overcome to even reach the starting post.

The object of the exercise in F1 is to reach the chequered flag first. THAT is where the race ends.

Not sure how anyone can enjoy the current F1

In the passed you had plenty of boring races but at least the cars were decent

'watched' yesterday race because waiting for motogp

All they talk about is tyres and fuel economy ffs. The cars sound dreadful as well (yes I have heard them live at a racetrack) As for DRS!!!

The commentators try to spice it up by coming up with ridiculus scenarios. Hamilton was easy winner from lap 2 yesterday.

I'm confident anyone at a top level of motorsport could switch to F1 and becompetent at a decent level, hence why there are so many pay drivers

Most people don't like F1 because they don't understand what's going on and why, hence the frustration. Its no surprise really, particularly in the last 5 years its become highly technical and reliant on quite a high level of technical understanding to be able to truely follow the story. Its a big jump from kicking a pig's bladder round a field! Of course for those of us who prefer senseless violence, there's always blood sports like Moto GP!

Sadly, I am reduced to watching whatever is offered on ITV4 since British Telecom bought the broadcasting rights. We live in hope, though, that things may change in the future. Failing that, we'll just have to pay more or develop new interests.

Love the way chit chat can keep having the same old arguments.  Of course it is a very technical sport.  And if you like top gear and Gerry Clarkson and how many cylinders have you got, how much for the walnut dashboard bla bla boring petrol head gas then of course you will like this.  If, when you are short of bog roll, you fish out the motoring section as a replacement then you are gonna think it is pointless.  All sports, like art, are ultimately pointless.  But there is always someone who is the best.  Unless it is F1 and the best is an Englishman and then of course it is just the car.
If we all get our neutral hats on then we would all agree that the money the beeb have spunked on it to the detriment of other sports is obscene.  And the way they justify this expense by pushing it on us left right and centre is obscene.

I think what I find annoying about F1 is the way it is marketed as exciting and glamorous. The BBC actually had a headline "Hamilton wins exciting Bahrain Grand Prix" and in the video of the race put up by the OP you hear the commentator screaming with what was meant to sound like excitement even though it was the usual dreary procession for lap after lap.
It is however interesting as Naydam points out from a science and technology point of view. I have a mate who is a big F1 fan and a keen photographer and obviously most people can see the appeal of these cutting edge machines.
It is more like a faster version of trainspotting but certainly not exciting.
Report Zazu April 20, 2015 9:47 PM BST
They were lapping faster in 2004 than they are now. Plus with no refuelling and the stupid tyres they are miles from the drivers and cars potential when it comes to race lap times. It's like asking usain bolt to run some 11 second 100m

The cutting edge technology nowadays is ERS and fuel economy. If you find that exciting you are a boring twatt

All the drivers are insanely boring and apparently incapable of independent thought which doesn't help either.
Report naydam April 20, 2015 10:35 PM BST
2004 season was carried out in accordance with a totally different set of regulations.
The object of the exercise, as with all races, is not to go as fast as you can. It is to complete the race in the shortest possible time that enables you to beat the opposition.
Going 'as fast as you can' simply results in no grip, no traction, no fuel, no brakes and no chance of winning.

How often would you expect to see a two-mile flat race run at three-furlong speed? It is not the way to win the race.
Report maleuk01. April 20, 2015 10:35 PM BST
I may be old fashioned but I always thought that F1 should be about building a car that goes as fast as they can go obviously within the parameters keeping the car on the track and safety of drivers, staff and spectators.

However F1 seems to be now just technological gizmo's but parameters are set that keeps the speed down and certainly numbs the driver ability. Fuel economy in F1 geeez what is the point. They could probably drive the cars via remote control around the track.

Therefore im ooooouttttt.
Report maleuk01. April 20, 2015 10:37 PM BST

I've just watched the Argentine MotoGP race. Excellent race. Marquez led comfortably for 80% of the race...but Rossi wore down his lead at the end and took the win. Cal Crutchlow taking third place.

Marquez and Honda should have realised that you can't win the race if you don't look after your tyres.

One or two ChitChatters could do with learning that, too!! LaughLaugh
The race ends at the chequered flag. Or the tape. Or the winning post. Or after 90 minutes play. The rest of the race/match/bout counts for aught in most cases. As it should be.

I'm going to Donnington this Sunday to watch the GT and F3 racing. It will start around 10.00 am and finish around 6.00 pm, £15 for the day which is around the same price as a League 2 football match, motor sports is not all about F1.
Report larry grayson April 21, 2015 9:07 AM BST
Just watch the first and the last lap and you won't miss much.

Another irritating aspect of F1 for me is the media prominence it's given. Yesterday on the BBC website it was all about the "exciting" Grand Prix. This morning we get a headline "Hamilton has a different aura". It seems totally media driven, like some childrens' pop group or the latest blockbuster film. When Bernie finally goes off to look after his roses step forward that other marketing genius Simon Cowell to keep shoving it down our throats.
Of course it is interesting to a lot people as is space flight or the quest for the human genome but with the general public becoming increasingly bored with it as a sport it simply doesn't justify the amount of "column inches" devoted to it.
If you complain to F1 fans that you find their sport boring they'll tell you it's not about the drivers it's a team sport and about all the stuff the manufacturers do to get the cars first over the line.
From a science and technology aspect you'd imagine that the real cutting edge would be Formula E then, but without the marketing ability and money of course, of F1 I think you'll wait a long time before the public are even aware of its existence and the teams and drivers involved.
Tuesday morning rant over. Victor.

They should all use the same cars on a flat start to find the best driver. Surely that is what it is all about. Not manufacturer's cash, technical expertise & best car. Of course this is my simplified view and the real followers find the technical side more interesting. How can you possibly know who the best driver is ? A fella in a porsche would always beat me in my reliant robin. As mentioned above, each to their own. Not for me though.
Report spellingandgrammarchecker April 21, 2015 1:14 PM BST
To try and create a bit of excitement, the designated team driver(s) should go out and do practice in other teams cars.

The fastest lap times then go to the back of the starting grid for the race.

A true champion will work his way through the pack and still win.

F1 is NOT about who is the best driver. It is about every aspect in the racing team. The drivers are pretty evenly matched. The cars vary in their suitability for the different circuits. Some are better aerodynamically. Some are better on high-speed circuits. Some are better on twisty tracks. Some are easier on tyre wear. Some are easier on fuel consumption. Some are easier on the braking system. Some have more observant mechanics. Some have better trained pit crews.
It is a very expensive class to race in, but the rewards can be huge. Just don't expect anybody to make it easy for you.

There are plenty of different classes to suit all tastes...but Formula One is the pinnacle that any team would aspire to.

I can't make you like it, nor would I wish to. Maybe I'm just lucky as I can enjoy watching almost any 'sport'. Athletics, boxing, football, cricket, gymnastics, bowls, curling, skiing, rowing, power boats, sailing, bull-riding, American football, golf, tennis and just about anything else that you care to name.
They are all different and maybe some of you should just take off the blinkers from time to time and maybe open your mind.
