Like Fry a lot. Very intelligent man, but I know people who have met him through work, and he never looks down on you or tries to force his intelligence on you in a superiority way.

And for some reason, he is genuinely in love with Apple products. At a FCO dinner he attended, he wouldn't leave my mate alone when he found out he had an iPhone 3GS. He hadn't got his yet and was besotted with it.

Enjoyed him in Blackadder, but find some gay rights stuff a bit naughty.

Expect the special needs one to be along and tell all, about the vile, rancid, fatFACE, khoont he is.

And he's bi-polar...obviously a well-travelled man!  GrinGrin

Plenty of very intelligent people about, this bloke got lucky
Report naydam April 20, 2015 8:47 AM BST
I suppose he IS quite affable and less stomach-churning than many other representatives of gay 'celebrities'.

@mecca -- Plenty of very intelligent people about, this bloke got lucky

Up to a point, Lord Copper. Fry started out in sketch comedy with Hugh Laurie, then branched into acting, and has written several books. So even if we put Fry's quiz-mastering and documentaries down to luck and don't count them, he'd still be very successful by most people's standards.

Jeeves and Wooster was superb.

Tough one.

Witty, great turn of phrase, affable and you suspect he'd be great to go and get pissed with. Impressive body of work which you have to admire on a professional basis and fair play to the guy for standing up for gay rights ('oooo  err missus')

But just when you think 'sound bloke' he goes and gets all precious about being bi-polar or 'look at me being a coke-hound' to the point where you think if you were out with him he'd have to be the centre of attention no matter if it was the biggest laugh, the biggest meltdown or the biggest line of toot he had to do to make people notice him.

that's a big hook.
we all love a fred about someone who divides opinion.
amusing that having played oscar wilde he now wants to be him.
hopefully he won't be slung into jail tho, again!

Pretty much agree with rtb.  Stephen Fry is a great talent, that book paperweight is awesome.
Report DStyle April 20, 2015 12:54 PM BST
i like a lot of the stuff he's done: his books; his tv work; his acting; but i'd not go as far to say that his body of work is impressive. it's neither prolific nor are there any real gems. he's produced nothing that will be remembered or is of any great significance.

i think he's a bit over-rated and undeserving of his natural treasure status. The idea of him being another Noel Coward or Oscar Wilde is a little too seductive for some, something which achievement wise, he most definitely is not.

I'd rather watch an hour of QI with Stephen Fry in charge than 5 minutes of that irritating Irish dwarf gayer, or the equally untalented poof, Louis Spence.

I see he divides opinion.
