I am thinking Japanese sports cars or fast Japanese saloons. My logic being that the boy racers of the late 80s 90s and 00s are going to wanting the cars they had or wanted when they were younger.

mk1 an important car history wise ,MK2 a great car but over 6m produced so supply will prob outstrip demand for a long time .
any old car is worth money ,the worse they were the quicker they disappeared ,how much money and TIME do you want to spend ?
millions of unfinished projects out there ,bought an old Vauxall Viva a few years back and put it together and was surprised at the interest it generated when i punted it .
cars cant just be put away and forgot about like an antique or a wine ect ,correct storage is expensive ,corrosion and degradation is continuous and never ending .

Not a chance a current Golf GTI will be a classic. Theres millions of them about. 4 Golf R's within a 2minute walk of my house

Try to find a Facel Vega if you are looking for an investment.

a new defender costs from 25-60 now but over the years they have done great money because they last and the new list cost take them upwards
not sure this will continue or would apply to many modern vehicles ,if a had to take a punt some of the early electric cars will do ok in the future imo due to low production numbers ,the Tesla Model S in rhd if you could pick one up for buttons in about 10 years might look a good investment in 50 years time .

Consider the Ford Cougar, a sales failure so not that many about.

I don't think the Cougar will ever be to classic car status, although it was extraordinarily radical when it was first introduced.

I suppose a cougar driving a cougar would be rather apt.
I would have considered a Reliant Robin but have you seen the price of a good one now, also the bond bug.

I look at the price of some of my old cars and it brings tears to my eyes.
I had a bmw e30 325 Motorsport which I traded in for sod all. A goodun goes for a decent premium now.

Been Driving an FTO for while ,had a vauxhall insignia for a few days last week nice enough motor ,unfortunately it does not adapt to roundabouts at speed as well as the FTO ,my passagers resembled people on a capsizing boat 
The FTO's are brilliant little things and seem to keep well.
I always wondered why Mitsubishi didn't bring them here!
On the subject of wishing you still had some of your cars I sold my e-type for £950.00 in 1973.
A top class one now can be £75k.
My TR6 went in '72 for less than £1,000.
The thing is that to have maintained them, and then fully restored them recently, would have cost serious money.

Would that not depend on how you looked after them you might not have noticed the cost over the 40/50 years?

I fitted new rear mufflers and front discs to the Jag, which cost £100.00.

Were you using the car on daily basis? I was thinking more of a Sunday car but with a weekly clean and run.

I can't see any cars made this century being future classics unless they were expensive in the first place
Pushing the starter button, and hearing the roar of the engine, made it worth going to work!
I think the XJS is still very under rated. I had the v12 convertible, not reliable but was more of a pleasure to be in than anything else I've had.
The average price of a Jensen interceptor has gone up a good 10k recently

yup MK2 ,the jag is one of the last Mk1,s ,no h/lamp protectors and a few other things ,a 4.2 .

He brought home brochures on the new range of Marinas, and confided that he was ashamed to be selling them!
His company car....an MGB GT V8 in purple with cream leather interior.
Still remember the reg "WWW 5L". No internet back then so no significance in the plate.

When I say British Leyland should not have existed I mean government influenced a merger by successful companies, that became too big with too many conflicting intrests at the wrong time.

well it's a nicer colour than hers mac, hers was that horrible mustard brown that Leyland used. I think the idea was to camouflage the rust better.
I think the Vanden plas would be be a good buy for someone with their own business, something like an antique shop/retro vintage stuff, or a trendy boutique or restaurant bar.
A work mate of mine who has a couple of foodie bars, near the cathedral in Carlisle had a nice Hillman Imp and is now on the lookout for a 2cv van.

2CV's are very collectible now (although bloody ugly imho) and easy to work on. The Citroen campers from the 50's are taking off also as a cheaper alternative to the VW.
the citroen camper isn't exactly an oil painting is it?
it's all personal choice, I think the VW is horrible but people are spending £20k+ on them

I didn't tell her when I put £100.00 deposit to hold it, but then I had to move fast on a property purchase, and needed every penny for that.
I wasn't "prattish" enough to ask for the dipper back, but was disappointed it wasn't offered, as I was a good customer for servicing of my BX.
Pity as she would have loved it, but I bought her a Beta 2000 Coupe later instead.

It's a mint condition Mitsubishi 3000 GT with only 14k miles and serviced every year.
Looked fabulous back then and still does today.

it also seems to be the non turbo model as I've seen loads advertised with blown turbos

No doubting that the Rover 75 is class, but it's the V8 one that people will want.

The 75 is unloved at moment so most will end up on the scrap heap same with the S type especially the 4.0L , but if you can get a low miler in mint condition either car will be a good buy.
I am seriously thinking of buying either one of these, a work mate recently sold his Jag for less than a grand top of the range sports model in immaculate condition, lovely car just the running costs and the retro styling letting them down.

I think one of these would be a good investment, or any Saab now they have gone
Think the turbo is the one if you want a Saab.
