Cameron continues to deny that sections of our society have been badly damaged by the welfare cuts

He also thinks selling off social housing is a good thing. He states money raised will be used to build more houses. Thatcher did the same, sold off Council houses. But the money was used toward paying of National Debt. No new houses were built to replace. It's why we have housing shortages now - not all down to immigration !  All of this will happen again if the Tories get back in.

Not all down to immigration he says but a very good proportion is and that, my friend, is undeniable.

Well done Cameron for trying to put an end to this disgusting benefits culture that was developed over a decade by Labour. A complete insult to hard working people.

A big thank you to the Conservatives for the fantastic right to buy scheme. I was able to my inner city London flat because of it and now have a nice house all paid for in a leafy hertfordshire suburb Happy

Doesn't matter how many she sold off. The fact is for every one put back into private ownership , was one removed from the ability to house a homeless family. For every one sold off, with the money not being used to rebuild  - meant another house was not there for the homeless. Add to that that the building of social housing was never funded anything like what was needed, creates the situation we' re in now,

The 10 m growth in population is one thing, that's demographics. How many of this growth require social housing ?
Was this planned into the housing build strategy ?
Report Ibrahima Sonko April 19, 2015 10:49 AM BST
just to clear this up, you are saying homeless people can move into an already occupied council house ?

Gig

This ' I'm alright Jack ' attitude typifies what is wrong in our society.

Some of us care about those less fortunate.

I thought it was a 'get up off your aarse and do something' attitude..still had to get mortgage and pay it off by WORKING.

For every one sold off, with the money not being used to rebuild  - meant another house was not there for the homeless.

Not so, the private rental sector takes a lot of these families now. Because plenty of those ex council houses end up being let.

Also people who move out of these ex council properties into private estates, puts extra demand on private house building as well.

So it all balances out.

I'll be glad when it's all over it seems nationally to have been a nasty and hateful campaign, I'm glad we have not had to witness it around here.

funny how the left think the opportunity to buy your own home is a bad idea but when you dig deeper, their families have all done it.
Report Dr Crippen April 19, 2015 11:00 AM BST
Was this planned into the housing build strategy ?

It certainly wasn't under labour.

They sat back and did nothing during the golden years when the money was available to build more homes.
As usually they created the mess for someone else to address.

good point Burton. Massive opportunity in politics for someone who has a bit of fun and humanity about them.

All the parties are in denial except UKIP.

The housing crisis caused by immigration.
The NHS crisis caused by immigration.
The GP crisis caused by immigration.
The crisis in school places caused by immigration.

The next wave will be a demand for the UK to take in a hundred thousand Syrian refugees and a load of those getting trafficked into Italy.
Neither Milliband or Cameron would have the balls to say no,Farage would.

Tis that should worry you.

To the Africans trying to cross the Meditteranean Britain is El Dorado.

If you want further proof ask those new Calais residents.

You can't take them all in.
You can't give the Roma a new homeland in South Yorkshire.

Its unfair on the indigenous population.

Buy your own housing association property under his new plan (102k discount in London) and try selling within 5 years you have to pay the discount back

The fact that so many people want to come to Britain should be a warning that something is wrong, the French are not saying how dreadful all these people at Calais wanting to leave our great country...they bave more common sense!

now your rent is higher than the landlords mortgage

something not right about the whole thing

nobody prepared to address the issue here

Dr Crippen will be along in a minute to tell you that landlords are providing a social service.
The mantra today is, "to those with means, more shall be given." The country is embarked on the ultimate ponzi scheme where everyone buys four properties and rents out three.
