willie thorne is the best by miles..........virgo was an average player and a below average commentator.

The producers at the BBC keep employing him because he's good at potting the brown, if one of them gets bored he just brings out a trick shot to keep em' happy.

His impressions back in the day in the break of 'character' players was terrific ........how on earth would you recognise who was being impersonated in this dull era.

Can i just say that Mike Hallett is the worserest snucker commentator that ever lived.

All the rest are like gods compared to him..

personally cant stand dennis taylor,full of cliches, commentary totally predictable.if he commentates on the mcmanus match wish i could have a fiver for every time he mentions his nickname is 'angles'

this imo, thorne is easilty the best commentator

The best commentator for me is Sir Clive Everton, and the worst Terry Griffiths.  I've never forgiven Griffiths (and Mark Allen) for their false accusations against Cao Yupeng.

Agreed about Hallett, the absolute pits of the earth as a commentator and arse licke r to boot..

John Virgo does a good job, he loves his horse racing as well and I used to see him at Windsor and Sandown every now and then. He had a horse called Jokist back then that he followed around. It wasn't that good but used to pop in occasionally.

I find Griffiths' commentary extremely boring and, as mentioned, found his and Allen's comments about Cao Yupeng disgraceful.

i suppose the Beeb cant win, some like him some dont. I wonder if in these
PC days whether he would have been allowed  to impersonate the hurricane's nervous

funny story (not if you're him) about Willie doing his absolute nuts on a match in the Scottish Masters and commentating on it at the same time
