Did you know that the biggest cause of death among men in their late teens and early twenties is suicide.
Above things such as road accidents, accidental overdoses, cancers, heart problems and everything else. More young me die by their own hand than of any other cause.
Might be a strange thing to bring up, but it shocked me as I remember those years as some of the best of my life.
It does seem surprising but then again a lot of young men are taught to keep their emotions in and not appear weak etc. If mental health was taken more seriously there would be fewer suicides.

Panorama last Monday was about middle aged men committing suicide again biggest killer in men of that age and nearly 4 times more men than women.
I knew a lad of 22 who hanged himself he had recently split from his girlfriend.

I put a lot of the blame on food, what's in this shyte they serve up is not compatible with the human brain, bodies are a machine and will malfunction if mistreated.

45 year old - suicide - 15 years ago (got drunk after an argument with his wife who told him to go and hang himself, he did)
19 year old - suicide - 20 years ago (his mum's house was burgled and he lost all his own composed music he had on discs, electrocuted himself with a wet towel over his lap and two bare wires from the mains)
22 year old - suicide - about 20 years ago (his best mate had no idea why he did it, they were both customers in my shop)
21 year old - suicide - 24 years ago (his new wife threatened to leave him if he stayed in London working. He went home to Scotland for xmas, the row continued, he hanged himself in his dad's house on xmas eve)
23 year old - suicide - 50 years ago (accicental overdose, I found him with a hypodermic needle in his arm in an old bomb shelter) (on a brighter note, about 12 years later, I shagged his sister)

In the year 2000, 4% of Americans had diagnosed diabetes. In 2012, over 9% of the population had diabetes. 27.5% had pre diabetes. Think about it, that’s more than a third of the population of the USA sick with either the early stages of the disease or the disease itself, which cost $245 billion that year to treat. And the rates have doubled in little over 10 years. Incidence of diabetes increases the risks for Alzheimer’s, cancer and heart disease. It’s a current human tragedy and looming financial disaster unfolding before their eyes. And we’re probably not far behind.

Suicides in the UK rose by four per cent in 2013, figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) today show.
In 2013, 6233 suicides were registered in the UK; a rate of 11.9 per 100,000 (19 per 100,000 for men and 5.1 per 100,000 for women).
The male suicide rate is the highest since 2001, and suicides among middle aged men aged 45-59 are at 25.1 per 100,000 which is the highest rate for this group since 1981.
Joe Ferns, Samaritans Executive Director of Policy, Research & Development said: “The news today, that suicide rates increased in 2013 is sadly not surprising to us given the context of a challenging economic environment and the social impact that brings. We need to see a greater focus at local and regional levels on the co-ordination and prioritisation of suicide prevention activity especially in areas with high socio-economic deprivation.”
“The excessive risk of suicide in men at mid-life continues to be a concern. The rate for this group has now reached its highest level for more than 30 years (25.1 per 100,000 suicides of men aged 45-59). These figures cannot be ignored.
“Samaritans has been concerned about the risk to this group for some time and our research report on Men and Suicide concludes that men from lower socio-economic backgrounds, living in deprived areas are approximately 10 times more likely to die by suicide than those in affluent areas.

Yet all we see are salacious programmes on C4 and C5 ( eg Skint or Benefit Britain), degrading these sections of society. The austerity measures being imposed on the most vulnerable in our society has terrible consequences for many people.

The headline numbers are a cause for celebration really.
The external causes of death of young people have been reduced so much that suicide is the top one. When a child leaves home a parent has much less to worry about, drug deaths are low, road accidents low, it wasn't long ago that seeing your son or daughter on a motorbike trip would cause a very anxious parent. Your child is less likely to be conscripted for a foreign war. Your child is unlikely to suffer disease or malnutrition, and concentrating on the last 5 years only for functional purposes less likely to attend a food bank.
Suicide is very sad, levels about the same as 2001 for young people apparently on Facts's extract from the ons. But the headline stat is a good thing, as many other causes of death have come down.

Yes channel 4 and 5 are obsessed with benefit programmes, they're never off them, what's annoying is that are thought up by middle class media grads, also known as d1ckheads, constantly wanting to make the poor look as bad as possible, they are all thoroughly depressing. Can't think of anything original so stick to tried and tested.

The trouble is these programmes continue the myth that it's these sections of society that are the problem. Continuing with the divisive strategy of pitting working class people against underclasses. All the while detracting away from the real cause of the austerity measures. This society of ours is getting divided more and more between the have and have nots. And the working class in this country are not seeing the insidious nature of the Tories and what they are doing. It's always been the same. Get people to fight amongst themselves. Get them to place the blame on people who they have more in common with. Ignoring the privileged in society (who continue to feather their own nests in which ever way they can ), because they can't relate to them, their lives are so far apart.
Cameron thinks look after the rich and it will filter down. Absolute b@ll@cks.
The working class have to benefit first, that's what will create growth and prosperity. There has to be a more equal society.
