After all the aldi and lidl promotion on here I decided to try lidl for the fist time.

Fruit is dreadful, own brand chicken is dreadful. Tried a tescos finest pizza, tasted like a kwik save no frills one ffs

Hmm. I'd say Tesco fruit is good. Maybe it depends where you are -- and even who works there as sometimes supermarket fruit looks like it was unloaded from a great height.

I don't know why you can't all just be a bit more positive with threads of this kind. Instead of going to places where they sell **** food (in your opinion), just go somewhere that you like. But stop f**king moaning about it!

Instead of saying 'this is crap' or 'their bread is rubbish' why not just say something like "Aldi do some nice steaks" or "So-and-so's pizzas are delicious". Nobody wants to know what you moan about. They might be interested checking out some of your favourites, though.

South African seedless sable grapes are delicious and in season. I bought two 400 gram packs in my local Aldi for £1-39 each yesterday.

Naydam has obviously tickled his amygdala. Well done. More of you lot on here should try it.

In response to Naydam's request, In my view Lidl are very good when it comes to:

Bread rolls and pastries.
Roasted almonds.
Island mix dried fruit.
Blueberries.
Hummous with lemon and coriander.
Orange Juice.
Tomatoes.
Potatoes.

In response to Naydam and Pokermonster, In my view Lidl is very good when it comes to:

Roasted Pistachio nuts
Aubergines
Duck Breast (or was that Aldi I forget)
Olive oil
Chocolate bars are cheap and much nicer than the equivilent in usual supermarket
Dishwasher tablets apparently came top of Which? magazine's survey (again, it could be Aldi as I get them confused)

Agree with Pokermonster, their tomatoes are much nicer and cheaper than elsewhere.

To clarify, Lidl is used by men who enjoy good food and hardware bargains.

Tesco caters for dippy women who like a good natter next to the frozen pizza cabinet.

Yes terry, wine is excellent there. Picked up a Chardonnay called Cimarosa a week or so ago, one of the best I've tried in ages,
and at 3.99 a bottle it was a steal.
Trouble is, whenever I pop into Lidl for milk or bread or something, I come out with a hammer drill or a ladder!

Terry/John - some of their wine are very good value, particularly if you do a bit of extra research (International Wine Challenge etc) to get additional opinions.  By the way Cimarosa is simply Lidl in house brand name (a bit like Tesco's Simply range).  The "Chardonnay" (actually part Chardonnay and part Colombard) John mentions is passable but too sweet and thin for me, but some of the reds from the range are not at all bad. But again do some research, there are some horrors!!
