I've given up potatoes - can't get good ones around here. Scottish Maris Pipers are rubbish - soft and waterlogged. Good quality English Maris Pipers seem to have disappeared since the referendum.

Found a potato growing out of a seed tray of parsley in the greenhouse this evening. A green bit I'd sliced off a spud hadn't composted properly and started growing.
Have transplanted it into the garden and will hope for the best. Hope it's not a Scottish Maris Piper. |

made a big pans worth of mash that finished a bag of 2kg roosters desire off, put bag in bin and idly thought "blimey didnt buy that bag long ago" then realised Fk me I literally bought them yesterday morning. Had 5 baked spuds yesterday evening, three more for lunch today (all with chilli). Then made mash from the remaining six this evening.
If you hear of a flat exploding on coast of west sussex it means weve had a powercut and I took a punt on using a candle. |

Try running up Ditchling Beacon. Pressure decreases at altitude, so according to Boyle's Law your intestinal gas should increase in volume to compensate. By the time you reach the top you could be virtually self-propelled.

High-altitude flatus expulsion (HAFE) is a gastrointestinal syndrome which involves the spontaneous passage of increased quantities of rectal gases at high altitudes.[1] First described by Joseph Hamel in c. 1820[2] and occasionally described afterward,[3] a landmark study of this phenomenon was published in 1981 by Paul Auerbach and York Miller.[1]
The phenomenon is based on the differential in atmospheric pressure, directly correlated with the observer's frequency of and level of experience in high-altitude metabolism. As the external pressure decreases, the difference in pressure between the gas within the body and the atmosphere outside is higher, and the urge to expel gas to relieve the pressure is greater. Consistent with Boyle's law, controlling for dietary variance, the amount of gas produced is constant in mass, but the volume increases as the external pressure decreases. I meant that the atmospheric pressure falls as you climb Ditchling Beacon, hence the pressure of the air in your arse relative to that outside it will rise. As Boyle shrewdly noted, Pressure of gas x Volume is constant, so if the pressure of the gas in your rectum falls, its volume must rise accordingly, and there's only one place for that increased volume to go ... woosh!
