Just been on the T.V.  It occurs to  me that  any British   entry drawn higher than 5
would have been a NR. If run under our  Rules every Charioteer would have fell
foul of the Whipping restrictions and the Roman Favourite would have been facing
a very lengthy ban for hitting an opponent, luckily he was killed so no further action
would have been needed. Only 4 finishers in a flat race would have the animal rights
brigade in a tizzy.
The race was won by the 4/1  second favourite running for Judea but owned by rich
Arabs! Some things never change. lol

Most of them were non-triers.
I don't know how they got away with it.

Was the beast owned by rich Arabs drawn 1? If so, there's a thread on hoss racing which might be interested.

Winner had plum draw in 3, 1 was  very tight against the rail/wall.
It was noticeable that there was no problems with kick back on the
Jerusalem all weather.
Dr Crippen is a bit unkind to say there were non triers, some just couldn't
go the frenetic early pace.
