It's an app that counts your steps and tells you how many miles you have walked and how many calories you have burned on each day.
There are a number of free versions for both android phones and iPhones.

Any shops in the Paulsgrove or Newport (S.Wales) areas selling those things can expect to have their shops picketed or burned down by the illiterate.

Which specific app was that Stow?

S Health is the one I use. If you search in your play store on an android phone or the equivalent app store on an iPhone, you'll find a number of free ones.

I was doing an 18 minute lunchtime walk at work and thought I'd see if the app made it around the mile and a bit I figured I walked. It seems fairly accurate.
It does seem to occasionally start with ca 80 steps before the phone has moved, so maybe 5-10% could be taken off the numbers. I don't carry my device around at work and maybe average a third of a mile per day on top of the above figures.
I used to do very little walking on a Saturday & Sunday, but now walk to the shops & back on Saturdays (close to 2 mile round trip) and go for a ca. 2 mile walk on a Sunday as a result of using this app.

The S Health app is under Widgets on my device. Click on apps, then the widgets tab (Samsung Note 2)
