For sports fans, get thee to a match at the Nou Camp. Can buy tickets on the gate (ticket office) for most matches. If no game on, do the Nou Camp tour. It's pretty well done, allowing you into the press/commentary area, pitchside, dressing rooms, press room, museum etc. You can get a picture of you holding the European Cup (or at least I did in the year after they last won it). Or head up to Montjuic and the Olympic Museum. You can get into the stadium for a look around for free too, and the views over the whole city are pretty good. Then take the cable car down across the port to the bar/restaurant area for lunch. The aquarium is quite good if that's your thing. Lot's of sharks for starters. If you like animals, then Barca zoo is quite good for a couple of hours. For culture, you should head to the Sagrada Familia (famous cathedral). Really impressive unless you're a complete philistine. Lots of Goudi architecture to look at around the city too. There's a superb coastline/beach if the weather's good so bring your swim stuff. Then head up into the Ramblas where there's tons of bars & restaurants. If you just want premier league footie and burger & chips, then the George Payne Irish pub in Urquinaona is pretty good for that. Near the Placa Catalunya which is at the top of the Ramblas, and good for shopping etc where you can park the missus for a couple of hours. Open top bus tour is quite cheesy, but a decent way to see the city without walking. Lots of nightlife, but worth looking up on trip advisor or similar to get the sort of music you're after. Estrella the local lager of choice (and cheapest).

If you are taking her indoors, tell her to organise the handbag to be secure, if you sit down at an outdoor café, put the handbag on her lap (I have seen thieves crawling to a table to get a bag), trust no one - even if they are dressed like a student or tourist.
Apart from the above, it is a great place and a very enjoyable place to be. Short train ride away is Sitges (gay capital of Europe) which has some great beaches - some are straight, work it out - and a good place to eat.
