Their version of "The Air That I Breathe" or whatever, helped keep me going for an 'exciting' year.  Other than that, they were average.  Average plus, possibly.

Apart from The Beatles and the Stones, the biggest English groups in the 60's were (not in any order): The Kinks, The Who, Small Faces, The Hollies, The Searchers, Bee Gees. 

So The Hollies were one of the best English bands in that era but they didn't really progress, they just turned out a string of decent pop records.  The Kinks and The Bee Gees did continue to progress after the 60's.

If you were an American in the 1960s, the three biggest British bands were the Beatles, the Stones and the Dave Clark 5. The latter were the group that had almost a residency on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Graham Nash went on to form the first ever international supergroup in CNS&Y, which surely represented something more progressive than anything the four scrunched up., fossilized Beatles ever managed.

That was probably the last time I watched it.
