There's an episode where I think they're talking about a day out and Del says something along the lines of having to come home via a tunnel - possibly as Rodney was seasick on the ferry (?)
I remember googling it when I saw it, and it was a foot tunnel under the river, does this ring a bell with anybody ?

I grew up in Stratford, on the No69 (yes, really) Bus route.
The 69 ran from Chingford Station to North Woolwich (free ferry). Quite a long journey. During school holidays and on very occasional days when we bunked school, we'd go to Chingford, stay on the bus and go all the way to Woolwich where we'd take a trip over the river take a walk to Greenwich park, buy sweets, sod about, then go back home. If we'd just missed the ferry, the foot tunnel was the alternative. There were steps down to what was a quite dimly lit, very long, Victorian tiled tunnel. The entrance on each side is right by where the ferry goes. I seem to remember it being a bit scary and not liking it much. I'm fairly sure it featured in a 1960's film, Bronco Bullfrog, which was set in Stratford. |

The Woolwich Ferry is mentioned in the episode 'Strained Relations', where Rodney mentions Del getting sea sick and having to come home via the Rotherhithe Tunnel.

the Rotherhithe tunnel is the narrowest of the 3 road tunnels, I hate driving through it because there are bends and it looks like there must be the potential for quite a few scrapes with wide vehicles.

Rotherhithe Tunnel, which you can also walk through if you're partly insane, and where you should always fold your car mirrors in, is two way traffic, the others are one way traffic these days.
My 22:13 post is the Woolwich Foot Tunnel Never been through Greenwich Foot Tunnel. Dartford Toll Tunnel was half a crown (12.5p for our younger readers) when it first opened. Bronco Bullfrog is on youtube, walofs that was. |

I didn't watch all the OFAH episodes.
I saw one where they went to Margate, but there would be no need to go through Woolwich Foot Tunnel to get home to Peckham as they're already south of the Thames. |

Are you sure you're not thinking of eseries 4, episode 2, Strained relations (Grandads funeral), where Uncle Albert asks Rodney if he's ever been on a boat and when Rodney said he had with Grandad, Albert asked if he had shown him the engine room. Rodney replies "No, no, it was only the Woolwich ferry! He got seasick. We had to go home via the Rotherhithe tunnel. |

That would make more sense, even though you'd come to Blackwall Tunnel first, driving from Woolwich.

Blackwall was always two way in one tunnel. New Blackwall tunnel opened years ago, making it two lanes either way. Got cameras all over it these days, racing through it is over. |

I'm only a nipper mate, so even after spending most of my life with 3 miles of it, I dont know much about the history. All i know it as is a constant pain in the @rse when foreign lorry drivers forget their phrase books, cant read the height restrictions and end up fcking holding me up!
Rotherhithe is closer to the area in which the Trotters live though. |

The old tunnel was the best one back in pre-camera days.
The bends are sharper than the new tunnel. Coming home from Kent at 2-00 a.m there was hardly any traffic and me and my mates used to race though it. My record pf 30 minutes exactly,from the Chequers pub in Yalding to East Ham Town Hall was never beaten, and even with today's sports cars, it can't be beaten, because of the number of speed cameras. Well it might be, but anybody who tried it would definitely get banned. |

I've had a drink with Boycey, about 23 years ago when he was in panto' at the Bradford Alhambra, and staying at the Victoria Hotel, where I used to pop in for a tipple.

they filmed frogs legacy down the road to where i lived at that time - i was away that week - typical

A couple of us are coming down to that London in June and I suggested doing a few less obvious things, I thought walking under the river might be quite fun. |
