20 odd years ago before Ed Balls had been invented, a labour supporting colleague I worked with told me that this Balls guy was very clever. His words were "he's got a brain the size of a planet".
At least I think that's what he said ... I've come to believe that I misheard and he actually said was "he's got a brain the size of a gannet's".
But a private education and then Oxford (key components of any good working class socialist) must mean he was a straight A student.
