Is being 'grumpy', a comedic skill or just one trick foolery?

Im talking about these so called comedy acts such as Hancock....Max Wall and maybe Jack Dee....  Who have made their fortunes by just being annoyed at everyone and everything.

Do people really laugh at these misery guts and their gripes against the world?

I've never laughed at them once.
