Swadlincote was mentioned on the TV this morning which reminded me of its most famous resident, Heavyweight boxer Jack Bodell who is still alive at age 74. He has a unique claim to fame in that he is the only boxer ever to be featured in Monty Python when he fought Sir Kenneth Clark [of Civilisation fame]

Biddles often clashed with Simon Smith the sports correspondent on the telly over Jack. All staged of course. George said to Simon on one occasion after he'd been criticising his boxer.

Just watched that tube vid. You forget how brutal the game could be back in those days, that one would've been stopped ten times over if taking place today. A hugely enjoyable five mins.
