can anyone explain to me his appeal - i use the word appeal in the sense why we as bbc licence payers pay him a fortune. my mum thinks he looks like a long faced saggy mouthed idiot

what's not to like for a modern day audience - a bling product, a total irreverence to all he encounters, and a home grown sarcastic disposition to boot. You don't have to be nice to be popular.
