I wouldn't do it.
3 hours driving per day just to get back/fro from work is madness and stressful.
Unless this is a short term thing I'd either change employment or move.

Did it for six months during the appalling winter of 1986/7 and swore after that never again, utter madness

Somebody's got to pay for the wife's hair and nails and the kids designer gear, stop feckin moaning

Depends on job satisfaction but a huge salary would be needed in all that, and then I would.

My bairn did that from Croydon to Portsmouth for a year before leaving to work for RR in derby, too much hard work living in SE England, she said.

Live in Croydon
Work in Portsmouth
3 hour driving commute each day

Any one of those would be enough to make a person slit their wrists.

Did it for 17 years. There were compensations that softened the drag.

Bloody hell treetop, that is a truly horrible journey.

I've mentioned before someone I worked with who commuted from the Isle of Wight to Bracknell (and back) every day.

Ferry to Portsmouth; train from Portsmouth to Reading; another train from Reading to Bracknell; bus from Bracknell station to the office

It did get her down ,always complained about the hogs back on A3 ? She was young and ambitious then but is paid very well now.
Report Cobblaz March 18, 2015 10:12 PM GMT
I did it for 6 years. Conti shift pattern, so not every day and not always during rush hour. 85 miles round trip, about 2 and half hours on road. Took vol redundancy last year and immediately got new job just a mile from home so I can now walk to work. Pay is a lot less, but working hours and lack of stress make life far more enjoyable.

I have to use the A3 a lot, it can be very unforgiving.

You do it because you have to and when you don't, you stop.  And live longer.  I don't listen to a tenth as much music though.  Which is a mercy given today's crop.
