I visited Belsen when I was younger, I saw the pictures, they were truly horrific.
I believed the Holocaust happened.

David Irving is a strange man. I am not sure whether he is an Historian or just an Historical author.
He has admiration for Adolf Hitler, there is little doubt of that.

One problem I have is, should being a Holocaust denier be an offence?????, it seem to me people have a right to the views, right or wrong

David Irving has mad money from a few knuckle draggers and every bit of publicity he gets fuels the morons to help him make more.
The whole denial thing is a way for a few otherwise unheard, unlistenable to, people to make a little noise and become a sort of club.
The sad thing is that some people are stupid enough to take notice, then the bullying can start, which is how the whole thing started.

I suspect every Jew hater is not necessarily a  holocaust denier but undoubtedly every holocaust denier hates Jews.

Holocaust deniers are not all the ticket, and therefore not worth arguing or debating with for any time whatsoever.

Perhaps we have failed to legislate against holocaust-denial because compared to a lot of other European nations, few of our citizens were herded on to trains to their death? Maybe the shared European memory of the Shoah necessitates such a law?

Broadly - and to my utter astonishment - I find myself in agreement with you about excessive legislation, I prefer to let people with foolish views hang themselves with their own idiocy. There is a case to be made here for legislation imo though, in fact Irving himself may even have benefited from it, since had he not been persuaded of the Deniers' argument - he was not always a denier himself - he may now be a respected historian rather than a pariah.

If you're looking for vile anti semites have you considered looking into the Moslem Brotherhood, or Hamas, the islamic state of iran and their western supporters, or most moslem palestinians, or even the majority of middle eastern moslems?

As for Irving, from what little I know of him, and based on the interview below, he doesn't deny the holocaust and he points out the lack of evidence that a particular gas was used at Auschwitz.

What's interesting is at around 11.30 where the questioner goes on about it not mattering how many millions are spent, somewhat at odds with the current bbc narratives. Or maybe not, perhaps their stance is that all money spent by heretics is evil, but those within the church may have unlimited funds as the cause is blessed.
Oddly, the bbc is a big supporter of most of the islamic states and virulently anti [israeli]

Nobody.

I think you'll find what some think of as the "palestinian state" was all on board with nazi germany (possibly irving might argue hitler was less enthusiastic but that's neither here no there) and this obviously pre-dates the state of israel.
The other large fly in the ointment is the rampant anti semitism that goes back to around 700AD and the ethnic cleansing which spans the mid east.
