The national minimum wage will increase by 20p an hour to £6.70 from October, the government has announced.
The statutory minimum for 18 to 20-year-olds will also go up by 3% from October, from £5.13 to £5.30, and by 2% for 16 and 17-year-olds, taking the rate to £3.87, as the LPC advised.

Paying huge bonuses to people already on huge wages is a major problem.
Was looking at one companies website today and saw that between them the CEO and FD were awarded £1.5m in shares for reaching target. The problem is that they receive about £1m in cash as well. They also receive shares for service, extending contracts and etc. |

It's Willie Hills. Checked their recruitment page and all cashiers outside London paid £6.50 per hour, minimum wage. CEO on basic £500k but can earn a further £1m with bonuses and shares. |

Pay for managers has come down, have known 2 leave in last few years because of it.

Wasn't as bad a few years back but wages cut with top rate of approx. £27k per year reduced to £22k with all other rates suffering similar cuts.

Retail has always been notorious for poor pay, benefits and conditions but I think the job is worth a lot more than £20-25k.

3% increase in minimum wage double the rate of inflation I think. Plus the tax free allowance has gone up astronomically with this government. Was about 6.5k as a guess in 2010, think they will raise it to 11k tomorrow. That is an extra £900/year in your sky rocket. Think the personal allowance goes up another £500 next month, so that is another £100/year straight away. That is about another 6p/hour - so effectively the minimum wage goes up another 1% in April and will have gone up about 8% (approx figures) over and above any official minimum wage increases simply by virtue of the personal allowance during this parliament.
