Anyone got one of these person-to-person currency exchange credit cards and can you get matched easily? Off to Europe a few times in the coming months and their rates look seriously competitive, so considering getting one.

for foreign bank transfers....currencyfair are good..you can leave amounts up you want (just like here)
for emergency cash i have a caxton euro card...rates about 3 or 4 cents below the mid rate but will be still a lot better off than using your bank....good thing is you can top up online and its there instantly |

We have a Caxton Card and it's very useful - topping up online from anywhere in the world
7pm tonight = Today's Rate: 1 GBP = 1.3825 EUR There's no charges for using it anywhere. |

I've used Fair FX for a few years now and their cards are great (You can get a $ and a € one). Rates are very competitive, you can top it up easily using your debit card (They have a phone app making this simple).
They don't make any charge for transactions made using the card as long as it is in the same currency as the card (ie don't let shop assistants/restaurants try to put the transaction through as sterling), but there is a flat fee (I think its $2/€2) for withdrawing cash |

Ok ta will have a look at those cards. The We Swap Cash rate looks almost too good to be true.

Once you take the We Swap fee in to account, Fair FX works out better (Only checked for Euro):
Fair FX: £720.46 buys you €1000.00 We Swap: £720.46 buys you €1007.50 After 1% fee this becomes €997.43 If you pay the 1.5% fee (ie don't wait for someone to 'match' your swap) you'd get €992.39 |

...although We Swap say they give you two free withdrawals a day if the amount withdrawn is more than £200 (Otherwise £1.50 charge) so that might work out better, depending how much/how often you are going to withdraw cash, as FairFX charge €1.50 per withdrawal.
Main advantage I can see with the We Swap card is that you can have 16 currencies simultaneously on the one card, so is very convenient if you are a frequent traveller to various parts of the world (Fair FX only offer € and $ and are currency specific) |
