AN owner has spoken of his delight today after being reunited with his stolen Bradford husky Murphy.
Murphy, who has been microchipped, was found in Manchester yesterday and returned back to his owner Andy Smith. The four-year-old went missing on December 4 last year after a suspected theft by two men in Scholemoor Cemetery. Mr Smith, of Cemetery Road, Lidget Green, said: "It feels amazing. "I can't put into words how it feels to have him back. I'm in shock. Mr Smith said it was still a mystery about what had happened to Murphy, who was taken to the RSPCA in Manchester after he was found in the city and then recognised by a staff member who had seen social media appeals about his whereabouts. “It’s been a nightmare," he said. “Murphy seems in good shape and is in good nick. “It’s been brilliant that people have rallied round. “I was in tears when I got the phone call to say he had been found. “When I first picked him up he was subdued but he’s settling back at home well now.” "We never gave up." Murphy's disappearance triggered a high-profile search campaign on social media. Facebook page Get Murphy Home was liked more than 37,800 times, with users sharing possible sightings. The campaign also received celebrity backing through the likes of Bradford illusionist Dynamo and comedian Johnny Vegas. |

Murphy was signed over to an RSPCA inspector who visited a house in Manchester where the owner said they couldn’t look after their two dogs any more.
RSPCA inspector Natalie Avery said: "I took both dogs to RSPCA Greater Manchester Animal Hospital (GMAH) to be checked over and one of the staff said Murphy looked like a dog that was missing. "We scanned him for a microchip and found that he was, in fact, the dog everyone has been looking for. "Calling his owners was absolutely amazing. It’s a great feeling when things like this happen. They were overjoyed to see him, it was very emotional." Murphy arrived at RSPCA GMAH at around 8pm on Thursday and by 8.30pm his owners had been called. GMAH general manager Ben Faulkner said: "Within 24 hours we managed to reunite him with his owners. We are so thrilled to have been able to help him find his family and there were a lot of tears all round on Friday. "Working at the sharp end of animal welfare, you often see and hear terrible things that people have done to animals, and to be able to play a part in such a remarkable reunion is just fantastic." Andrew and Puiling are two-year-old Murphy’s ninth owners and the couple has two other rescue dogs at home. They came across Paddy sleeping in a cemetery with a rope digging into his neck. He wasn’t microchipped and they adopted him from the dog warden when no one came forward for him after 28 days. Monty, another husky, has just come to live with them from a friend of a friend who couldn’t cope with him. "Paddy was really pleased to have Murphy home, and he and Monty seem to be getting on okay. Murphy was the top dog in the house, and he’s definitely planning on stepping back into that role," said Mr Smith. |

Am I reading this right?
At one point it is said that the dog was two years old, and had nine owners!!!! How would they know that when the dog was abandoned? Later it says the dog was four years old! |

Yes, there does appear to be different reports of the age of the dog. Where does it say the dog was abandoned?

Aunty,we have a dog here who had five owners before she was two.What happens is the dogs are placed in rescue kennels & people take them on.Then they decide they don't want the dog & take it back to the kennels.All rehomings aren't a success for various reasons.For ex.our dog was put in Kennels by her original owner when she was six month,she was rehomed three times prior to us getting her.Unfortunately those who took her & returned her must have thought she'd make a lovely lap dog but she was anything but.She would have your hand as soon as look at you but with patience & love she's turned into a little cracker.She's that good now the grand daughter can chew on with her all day & the dog just plays with her.Just a pity some of her former owners hadn't given her a chance to sort her head out.

You see, I'm always banging on about how I hate social media but I shouldn't knock it as many lost and stolen pets are reunited with their owners through it.

True Makybe, but social media does have its downside.
There are plenty of pages, groups and events where animals abusers post pictures of sadistic and cruel violence against animals. These pictures show animals being trampled alive, stuffed into jars, burned alive or being sexually abused. No matter how often you report these pages, groups, events and images, you always get the same answer: "Thank you for taking the time to report something that you feel may violate our Community Standards. We reviewed the comment you reported for containing credible threat of violence and found it doesn't violate our Community Standards." (source: Facebook |
