27 yr-old boyfriendpartnerlivinlodger of MY good lady's daughter has had a bump in Monmouthshire country lanes.
Too fast, too wide collided with a Mercedes and then stuck his own vehicle in a hedge. Write-off and police called.
Uninsured **** - his friends car (not present but allegedly gave permission to drive) and not his twatface's first collision.. often edge of law behaviours.
What are the likely consequnces please.. ban and big fine? Huge insurance in the future?
Ban will mean mean unemployment.
Financial responsibilities towards the friend? (e.g. replacement car) - financial responsibility towards the Merc.owner?
Must admit I've never liked or respected the plonker but some idea of where this will go would be helpful please gents!!

depends on what's on his licence already but just dwi could be 6 points, sometimes more

fine will be fairly steep, owner of car could also be fined for allowing him to drive whilst uninsured

might get escalated to driving without due care or dangerous driving for the road offence, that could make it a ban

also liable for the merc costs, that include damages to vehicle, costs for driver and legal costs for that lot as well, could be huge and far outweigh the fine

oh yes, unlikely to get many wanting to insure in future and huge premium if he does, maybe 2 to 3 times typical price to an average driver

Thanks Elise.. unfortunately you confirm what I feared for him. If only 'they' would think of the consequences first :(

Can I ask a similar question on here please?

I'll try and cut a long story short. Three of us travel to work in our mates van, yesterday I left early and they stayed on for a couple of hours to do a bit more work, they went to Mcdonalds for 15 minutes and in that time the van got nicked, he's insured but not for any contents (or contents that weren't his, not sure which) I've got at least £1000 worth of hand tools/Stihl saw in the back which I know I'll never see again. He gave me a crime number last night and gave me a coppers number to speak to about it. He said I'd have to try and claim through my house insurance if I wanted to claim, I've not even checked with my insurance and I don't think it's even worth looking in to when you take in to account excess and all that.

I'm pretty content with writing it off, and I've replaced the smaller tools already. Anybody got any ideas/tips that I've not thought of? Could I fiddle it on my tax returns?

I suppose the vehicle owner could claim that the tools were his. I assume that he had tools stolen as well. Or has he already made a statement regarding what he has lost?
Would he need receipts?

If your mate gave him permission to drive whilst unisured the insurance company wont pay out, where as if he said it was taken without permission (ie stolen) they will. Is it an expensive car?
Report elise February 28, 2015 5:18 PM GMT
it's highly unlikely you have cover on house insurance but some do cover loss from away from home but normally you'd specify what items are covered

the only other cover is if you've recently bought any of the tools with a credit card in which case they may be covered by your credit card company

to me? (rather than Kenbo's issue?)
Dunno for sure.. but probably something like a very old Corsa patched up with parts from the scrapyard. That's how they generally live... welding, taping together, make do and mend. Little or no money to spend on quality.
Report s.kenbo February 28, 2015 5:30 PM GMT
My mate had already told the police what tools he'd lost and what tools I'd lost. I needed some new kit anyway so this has pushed me to get it. The Stihl saw was the main expense and I got that second hand so I've no receipt for it, I'll pick another second hand one up at some stage.
