The original photo in the Mail has now been replaced with a photo that does make the dress appear black and blue.

It's a good advert for Roman Originals.

I rather like the pink and black version of this dress but everyone will be wearing these dresses now.

I've heard about "Fifty Shades of Black and Blue" and I think you've misspelled that last word.

Although tbf it could be white as some of white shirts have come out of the washer like that.

I see white and gold if I had to chose, but white it bluey white, Gold is gold definitely not black for me.

The blue is definitely blue for me always. With colour picker definitely the black has a bit of brown but it would depend what exact pixel you picked, the area on the top left side is quite dark.

It makes me wonder if I see the sky and sea as a much deeper fuller blue shade than you guys do, who see it more white.

When I saw it on TV this morning it was definitely dark brown and blue.
Now I've seen it on the link provided by Wesdag it looks gold and light blue.

It makes you realise that we all percive the world in a different way, sights sounds taste...which does explain a lot.

I'm wondering if it partly depends on the screen you see it on as well, the colour balance of the monitor/graphics card.
But on TV people are seeing different things on the same screen.

Colour Picker BTW is if you paste the picture into Paint then click the dropper then a pixel, then look at your available colours, it'll show the exact colour you picked in there as a square.

for me the 'gold' really pops, ie its more gold than orange/muddy brown, so its difficult for me to imagine how people see it as black.

The different colours depending on context I knew about, but this I think is different. Otherwise they would be able to see it in different contexts and you could flick between the 2 color sets. But everywhere i see this its gold and white. even adjusting the brightness of my screen etc

When I looked at it it this afternoon in daylight it definitely looked white and gold.

Now I am looking at it on the same screen but under artificial light it looks blue and black.

I was wondering about that myself Gin, everything always looks the same shade to us but if you use a digital camera and have the white balance wrong, everything is messed up, so your eyes adjust.
I'm going to look at the pic again tommorow in good daylight.

Gold and white.  But the background is very bright.  Suspect if they dulled the background I'd see the other pair.  All colours are the invention of our neurons - they don't exist outside of our brains.  Like many of you.

Can anyone explain how/why this dress is dominating todays media? 

yesterday I looked at half a dozen pics of this and every time I saw blue and black, like Inter Milan top, clear as day.

This morning I see gold and white. WTF. Are they switching the photos?

maybe for a split secound, the flash on the camera distored the colours for the non-colour blind.

I think its the auto white balance of your eyes.
The room is lit with daylight at the moment and I remembered and looked at the picture, and I'm sure it was gold/white. I was shocked and I looked out the window into bright light for a few sceonds having a think about it, looked back, and it's blue/black again.

FFS. I'm part mutant, this may spoil my weekend

The colours on the right (in the red rectangle) are not "inter milan" colours, neither are they gold and white like the pope might wear. So both are being interpreted by the brain in unusual way

That would be same for everyone in all conditions, this changes from person to person and during the day.

Immiediately before looking at it I'd been lookng at a dark screen which maybe makes your eyes more readily see white, and literally a few seconds of daylight has reset my white balance to the correct setting.

There's a hidden agenda here.  The Govt are weeding out the Blue and Blacks.

But it IS black and blue. Your eyes do do lots of wacky things though don't they, like those things where you stare at something for a while and then look at a wall and the wall appears to be pulsating and alive.

I used to be able to do those magic eye things where you sore of stare at a pattern without focusing and an image sort of suddenly appears, some people couldn't do them. Gold and white people in particular I'm sure would struggle, with their sub standard eyesight.

I looked at it on someone's phone and saw as white and gold, the two people I was with both saw blue and black all of us looking at the same image at the same time.

Still seeing gold and white on that photo. But yesterday saw blue and black.
conclusion : I'm looking at different photos.

I had a proper look at home yesterday but still saw blue and gold.

so, my seeing eye dog says grey and dark grey, and he looks at stuff for a living

It's a bit of a myth that dogs are completely colour blind, they do see colours, just not as well.
